Happy Independence Day to all

I voted leave as I believe the Executive body in a state/country/union should be democratically voted by the population. The EU Commission President is also on €300k annually; I am a strong believer in reducing Central Government spending on wages and expenses.

p.s. I believe in Free movement and the Customs Union. But not an Executive body that was not elected.

I still don't understand this argument. The Commission comes up with ideas, but these are still voted on by MEPs, who we elect?

That's no different to the Home Secretary (who is only elected as an MP) being appointed with no public vote and putting forward a bill that then gets voted on by elected representatives.

Even then, for everyone moaning about unelected officials, we still have the House of Lords in this country!

We can't help it that you don't understand.

You can vote out the government so bye bye Home Secretary.

You can't vote out the commission....So the executive who determine what happens is undemocratic.

The House of Lords cannot decide upon what legislation comes in. They can only ask for laws to be looked at by parliament again. They are a clearing body not a body who decides the direction of laws.

With the EU all we can vote on is their version of the House of Lords.

It's voted on by MEPs who we elected to make decisions for us. The President is voted on by the council which includes our Prime Minister.

The commissioners themselves are nominated by the PM, just like our cabinet positions here?

Are you just being difficult? I think you are...trying to claim equivalence is plainly ridiculous.

We...the people can't vote out the commission. It is the commission who get to decide the direction the EU goes.

We can vote out our government. It is the government who get to decide the direction the UK goes in...well it will in 2019.

The very core of the EU is undemocratic.....and what this shows is that we have plenty of people happy to go along with that.

Most immigration into the UK has been far higher from non-EU countries than from the EU for every year the UK has been an EU member. This will not change once the UK leaves the EU. What will change is the opportunities for the younger generation who will be relegated to second choice within teh 27 country strong EU. Nice for the older people who voted to leave the EU but what do they care when they won't be around to pick up the pieces? A selfish and nasty older generation who has no interest in the future of their own country.

If I were the EU, I would make it EU law to accept as EU residents anyone from the UK who isn't a pensioner (at least 10 years to pensionable age) with open arms. Leave the rotting older generation in the UK to smolder in their own compost.

That just sums up your arrogant and warped mind. What a fecking idiot you are and a proper keyboard warrior. What a stupid thing to say and you STILL have not taken me up on a meet up on your own patch....what a wimp you are. You are really showing your true colours and its a good job you live in Malta...best you stay there!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

And not everyone votes for our PM. Nor does all the heads of states vote on the commissioner that gets the job. If the population cannot vote on who runs the executive body of the EU, it is not democratic.

Time was if schools in an authority were crap you could vote out the council, but now you can't vote out an academy chain.

All this outsourcing is making local government undemocratic.

You mean you can't vote in local elections? An academy chain is not a political arm.

It's like saying your teacher hasn't been teaching you very well, and can't vote them out. You can make a complaint and see how it goes.

Nick, could you imagine if May was made a President, and only the Government (Not Parliament or Population) could decide who gets that job?

Be good we'd be a Republic then. Buck Palace could be used to house homeless soldiers.

Leave the rotting older generation in the UK to smoulder in their own compost.

That is more than generous what a bunch of selfish g**s they are, also the fattest in the world except for the USA.

However as a slim europhile and potential 'corbynista' I am hoping Glastonbury will be a turning point and will be 'hanging out' in the hope of forgiveness by the younger generation.

I even got a Corbyn t-shirt from ebay it's cool...

God there are some real w***ers on here.....knocking the older generation like that.
You ought to be f***ing ashamed of yourselves.
My father would be turning in his grave(if he hadn't been cremated ).
I ain't far off being one of them either.

Not that I have knocked the older generation but I notice that you haven't had a swipe at those bemoaning the younger generations.

So could the London MPs who claim a second home.

If the younger generation piss me off over something then I will say,I have children and grandchildren, they are my concern.
Not some middle class six form revolutionary.

I don't trawl the net every single minute of the day. Haven't you heard of rss feeds. And to be honest, Tory cundery is so ubiquitous it's not hard to find examples.

But you still haven't condemned those that say all youngsters are self entitled w***ers. (I paraphrase)

I vote for an MP to represent me, and make decisions on my behalf. If that MP is the leader of the party and they win an election, they get to be PM. If they are PM, one of the decisions they'll normally make is nominating the British representative on the EU commission.

I also vote for an MEP who represents me and votes on my behalf on all laws that the commission come up with, and vote for the President and endorse the commissioners and can block appointments.

If you don't like the make up of the commission, vote for a different MEP who shares your position, or vote for a party who will nominate a different representative?

Very pleased that May has shown her hand in regard to the 3mill and that they can stay. It shows goodwill and a desire for the talks not to get spiteful. Although showing one's hand no matter what is apparently a terrible way to do business according to some.

Europe's most senior official has criticised the UK's offer to EU nationals after Brexit, claiming it could "worsen the situation" for them.

Mrs May still trying to manage a hard brexit despite the election results.

Years of this ahead it would be much better to confirm EU citizens and our ex-pats situations as they are.

First of all f*** off I don't have to answer to you,but secondly not all youngsters are,I have four children they all work live their lives and generally have a decent life.
They don't expect anything for nothing and work hard for the things they do want(with the occasional help from the bank of dad),maybe it's the way they were bought up with no sense of entitlement....

So you're happy for other posters to slag off the entire younger generation but take issue if someone slags off the entire older generation. As long as that's clear.
