This would be the centre back signing i would like to see. He抯 quick, good feet, good tackle, good in the air and a threat at set pieces. Rumours were Liverpool were only ever having to buy him for 18m and that the price is now around 13m to any other interested club. For that money I think it抯 a good buy for us.

Looks to be a good signing to me - big draw for me is the PL experience allied to youth. Not sure I'd call him quick - except when compared to our current crop - Liverpool defence fell apart last season because they didn't have the pace in the middle with their full backs pushing on. Good all rounder is the way I'd see it. And we're not going to be playing Robertson and Trent as de facto wingers. Or are we? Originally posted by Hudsoneagle

Bear in mind he only played 13 games for Liverpool and that was after the Jan transfer window. He抯 not at fault for their poor mid season form.

So last season Liverpool with all their defensive injuries got this bloke and are letting him go so I guess they don't rate him. They also signed that centre half from Preston which had people complaining we should have got him well he never even played a game for them. So not a great track record of Centre Half signings by the Scousers and then there was the one they off loaded onto us Soldier or Chocolate Soldier as he should be called. Ed is normally reliable so this would indicate we want another quality centre back. Would certainly be a great signing but I would have thought we would hold off spending a great deal until we land a CM. Good signs though ! !
