You’ve only got to go into the Club Shop or visit the club website to see the claret & blue retro shirts and other souvenirs - which I assume sell in good numbers as they are often different versions every season - to see why the club would use the colours. Don’t think any Palace fan that saw Palace play in the old colours will ever tell you they didn’t like them - so many memorable matches and great Palace players in those shirts - of course we should be celebrating them, in my view. Shirt design is surely about something related to Palace (in this case, our history). The fact that another team uses a colour is irrelevant. You don't define yourself by looking to someone or somewhere else. Personally, I'd get rid of the 'Eagles'identity altogether if it was down to me. It's a meaningless piece of modern branding albeit in 1974 one ahead of its time (unless you've seen an eagle flying free over Croydon lately). The Glaziers, on the other hand, are what we were and really are. It has meaning in the context of both the club and the area we play in. Personally, I'm not overly bothered whether we play in red and blue, claret and light blue or if we're being historical accuracy pedants, blue and white. But a change that reminds us of our history every few seasons doesn't strike me as a bad thing. Particularly right now where in general we are trying to forge a new identity, this might be a good time to try something different.

That would have been the first non-nostalgia shirt I'd bought in three decades. It's easily, by a country mile, the best Palace shirt I've seen in as long as I can remember. Just goes to show, if the club let the fans make decisions rather than the so-called 'marketing experts', we might just get a kit we all like.

I'm perfectly fine for our mascot to be an eagle... I say the badge in the future when we come to redesigns should put more emphasis on the crystal palace than the eagle.. it actually makes sense. But united have Red Devils, spurs west ham, so an eagle for me is fine
