I am in total agreement and had this conversation only last night.
He will be 36 this year and his performances have waned over the season.

Agreed. He is one of the main reasons we sit so deep, he's slow. I noticed a few times when he has failed to react quick enough to block, and turns his back resulting in opposition goals. I was surprised when he came in, I thought we should have been looking for younger players then; now the CB area is desperate for an overhaul.

I concur with these sentiments whilst adding that sitting deep is not solely due to Cahill's deficiencies in the twilight of his career.
Central defence is definitely an area which needs strengthening.

After all Sakho is widely recognised by Palace fans as having been a very good defender and Wickham is still younger than the vast majority of our 1st team squad. You are not wrong. After all Sakho is widely recognised by Palace fans as having been a very good defender and Wickham is still younger than the vast majority of our 1st team squad.

BUT can we realistically expect them to become injury free? I suppose we have to pass that one over to our medical people. I don’t think Wickham was ever premier league level, sakho I recognise the name, but couldn’t place him.

Even though we finished comfortably ahead of the relegated sides, the writing's on the wall for next year. I am glad that Roy Hodgson has left but accept the argument that the present squad could only escape relegation with a manager such as he (risk limitation). Of course, as the Hibernian said, I wouldn't start from here. To have so many players out of contract doesn't suggest a well run club.
