Keep everyone except PVA, Hennessey and Wilf. And I'd take or leave McArthy too.

It's a case of pragmatism versus wishful thinking. For me we should let the following players contracts run out: Should try and retain the following: These players could be let go if we have satisfactory (younger) replacements: All the current U23s are still young enough to represent us at that level next season. It would be good if they can win the play-off tomorrow so they can pitch themselves against the big clubs next year.

After the last couple of games, think it is time to say farewell to our wonderful right-back Joel Ward. His lack of pace cost us in every game. Wonder what Clyne is like now when he can not get into the side..?

Still think both Sakho and Wickham could be worth keeping, obviously with reduced terms or some creative pay as you play basis. Both quality on their day and if they get an injury-free run, would be like a couple of new 20mil + signings. (I realise it's a big IF on the injury-free run.) Edited by sprites (24 May 2021 1.32am)

Wilf: We have to keep him, especially with Eze out. Ayew: Don't see what he brings to our squad anymore, goodbye. Hennesey: Third choice, no reason to keep him. Goodbye. Sakho: Not unless he's willing to take a massive cut in wages. Goodbye. Benteke: Not unless he's willing to take a massive cut in wages. Goodbye. Schlupp: He's a bench player, not sure how much we want to pay him. PVA: I like him, but as a bench player on reduced wages. Cahill: A one year contract at most. Ward: Bench player at best. Townsend: Bench player at best. McCarthy: I'd lean toward keeping him. He's similar to Luka, but better. Kelly: We should be able to do better. McArthur: Bench player at best. Mateta: Keep. Basically, we have a bunch of players who are either too old, or too injured to count on playing on every day. Roy never rotated players. Our new manager could get something out of players like Townsend, if he's on the bench most of the time, and starting here and there. Benteke is another example. The guy was total sh-t for years, then when he's playing for a new contract, he looks great in a few games at the end of the season. This is another case where Roy f-ed up by not giving Mateta and/or Bats some starts so we could see if they would be adequate replacements for Benteke. But no, he stubbornly played Benteke every match. Now we don't now what Mateta and Bats can do, and we don't know if Benteke could be useful, or only motivated when playing for a new deal. The disconnect between SP, DF, and Roy was cancerous to our squad this season. I mostly blame Roy for that, refusing to play anyone new.

Wow. Lots to disagree with here. Where do I begin. Originally posted by Wilbraham413
Wilf: We have to keep him, especially with Eze out. We really don't. He doesn't want to be here and his performances have shown that. If we can get anything in excess of 40 mil, I think we take it. Ayew: Don't see what he brings to our squad anymore, goodbye. Works his socks off. Chips in with goals. Covers wide positions, #10 and striker. Worth keeping for cover. Hennesey: Third choice, no reason to keep him. Goodbye. Agreed. Agreed. Although I'd be pushing the reduced terms, because when fit he's up there with our best. Benteke: Not unless he's willing to take a massive cut in wages. Goodbye. Madness. He's been in great form recently. Shows what he can do when we play to his strengths. Agreed that we need to try a different wage structure though (performance based.) Schlupp: He's a bench player, not sure how much we want to pay him. Not necessarily. Looked one of our more dangerous at times. PVA: I like him, but as a bench player on reduced wages. Agreed. Cahill: A one year contract at most. Agreed. Ward: Bench player at best. Agreed. Townsend: Bench player at best. Bit unfair - he's been our best player last couple of weeks. Nah, I'd get rid. Nowhere near as good as Luka. Kelly: We should be able to do better. Agreed. McArthur: Bench player at best. Rubbish. One of our most important players. Missed him. Mateta: Keep. For what? Basically, we have a bunch of players who are either too old, or too injured to count on playing on every day. Roy never rotated players. Our new manager could get something out of players like Townsend, if he's on the bench most of the time, and starting here and there. Benteke is another example. But no, he stubbornly played Benteke every match. Now we don't now what Mateta and Bats can do, and we don't know if Benteke could be useful, or only motivated when playing for a new deal. The playing for a new contract thing is rubbish. And it's getting boring. Players don't do that. We've made it up.

Out: Clyne: Will be let go and rightly so. Hennessy: I’m sure he will get an offer from the Championship. Sakho: He has been as good as gone since the start of the year. Wickham: Please god get rid of him. PVA: His mind has been made up to leave and he won’t be short of decent offers. Bats: Obviously going as only on loan. Scott Dann: He looks finished so there is no way he should be offered a new deal. McCarthy: The injuries this season should have pushed the club to move him on. Stay: Benteke: After his end to the season I will be surprised if he is not offered a new deal but problem is now he will have offers elsewhere to compete with ours. Cahill: Has shown enough this year to be offered a 1 year deal. Ward: He has his faults stays injury free but and decent this season and at 31 I think I will be offered a new deal.
