Chelski-

yes you've won more silverware
yes you're a bigger club
yes your kids beat ours (although most of ours came through our academy. how many of yours did? half?)

None of this changes the fact that we'd all much rather be riding the roller coaster that is supporting Palace than have our club turned into what Chelsea has become. If I couldn't afford a ticket at Selhurst because some fair weather fans were turning up to watch over payed, over priced primadonnas who have no connection to the club they play for, I'd be very pissed off.

You coming on here and pointing this out to us completely reaffirms the view that Chelsea is everything that is wrong with modern football, and it sickens me that your 'fans' have soaked it up.

I wouldn't dream of going on to Carlisle's forum and list 100 reasons why we are a bigger club, Doing so makes you, and your club, seem pretty pathetic. You are welcome to all your success, but give me a cold Tuesday night at Selhurst Park against Hull over what your success has cost you any day.

Edited by blanksight (05 Mar 2013 3.54pm)

Oh dear 'the old' football has been ruined arguement. The one brought out by fans of clubs who have no success and little money and who would rather watch there team play in the championship than the champions league!!
Ok, so I assume that if you go up you wont want Palace to take the 100 million on offer from Sky??? Oh and if you start buying world class players from abroad you wont want them either?? Get real, you will 'lap it up' along with every other Palace fan!
As a Palace fan, of course you would rather be watching Hull on a cold Tuesday night (good result by the way) but most of the footballing world were tuned in to Man Utd v Real Madrid because thats what football fans want and in fact thats what you all want to, its just you are unlikely to get it.
Palace fans crave success and trophies just the same as all other fans and they want to watch the top players week in, week out. Thats why you are all getting excited by the possibility of promotion.
When you went up before I dont recall Palace fans complaining at the foreign players coming in to the club? In fact isnt one of those players still there (Speroni?). Not all foreign players are mercenaries.

I'd rather a warm night in Munich ANY day and so would you!!!!!
Question: What two games had the highest attendance at Palace in the last two seasons?

You've made some incorrect assumptions here. Just because fans of your club have reacted a certain way, doesn't mean all fans of every club want the same things. If they did, explain why Utd fans broke away and created FCUM, why AFC Wimbledon are infinately more respected than Man City, and why the vast majority of fans attending live football are at clubs who've won no silverware or haven't for a long while? Football supporters do not crave trophies. Some may do, but I, and many fellow Palace fans, don't. Thats not to say it wouldn't be great to compete for a major honour, but that would be a bonus, not the nitty gritty of what following us is about.

Myself and many other Palace fans have commented that they're not sure about going to the prem. It's great to get there, but the reality is we'd struggle, our youngsters wouldn 't get a chance and prices would go up.

I would certainly rather see the likes of Zaha, Williams, Clyne, Moses, Scannell, Watson, Wright, Mcanuff, O'Keefe, Parsons, etc. than Torres, Oscar, Drogba, Lampard etc. even if they did give us less success. Yes, not all foreign players are mercenaries, but many are, as are many english players and those that aren't (like Speroni) earn the love of the fans over a long period.

highest attendance at Selhurst this year was Burnley, 20,863

Last year was Cardiff (league cup semi) 22,147

What's your point?

I think his next "point" will be about how their attendances are more than double ours! Closet Brighton fan?

nope see above

Personally if palace do go up I hope it's just for a season, nick the75 mill and get back in the championship, build for the future ala wba. After 45 Yeats watching palace I know where my best times have been.

So you'd want us to lose every week? There's no reason why we can't do a Stoke, Sunderland, or Wigan? They're all clubs who were once in the Championship and in Stoke and Wigan's case they came from lower divisions, and Stoke and Wigan are starting to become established...

If they did, explain why Utd fans broke away and created FCUM, why AFC Wimbledon are infinately more respected than Man City, and why the vast majority of fans attending live football are at clubs who've won no silverware or haven't for a long while?

Thats because there are only a certain amount of trophies to go round which are predominantly won by a few clubs. I think the situations at Man utd and AFC Wimbledon are actually different but both arose because of disgruntled fans (justifiably by the way) at the direction their club was going. Most fans arent so disgruntled with their ownerships which is why the forming of 'AFC's' are rare and not the norm.

So why do the majority of fans not follow the teams that are competing for trophies? admittedly there are alot of fans who do attach themselves to the biggest clubs, but most don't.

Football supporters do not crave trophies. Some may do, but I, and many fellow Palace fans, don't. Thats not to say it wouldn't be great to compete for a major honour, but that would be a bonus, not the nitty gritty of what following us is about.

Sorry have to disagree with this and feel that you have an idealistic view of football fans that just isnt true and doesnt hold up to scrutiny. Fans do crave trophies or at least success and thats clearly shown by the increase in attendance and sales of merchandise thats follows said success. I accept you have that view but disagree that it is a common held one.

As mentioned above, there are some fans, and lots of kids, who want to follow the big boys, but most of us want to follow a local team. That's not idealistic, thats a fact. there may be many glory hunters around, but most of us aren't.

Myself and many other Palace fans have commented that they're not sure about going to the prem. It's great to get there, but the reality is we'd struggle, our youngsters wouldn 't get a chance and prices would go up.

Again I am sure you will be in a minority with such a view. Just glancing at your main message board site shows the longing for the 'holy grail'.

admittedly it is a minority view, and of course we want promotion (unless theres some goal, what's the point in playing) but there is plenty of trepidation about what promotion might mean. I've heard it said by a few that they'd love to win the league, then the board turn around and refuse promotion! (madness of course)

Very admirable and totally understand.Cant agree except with Torres LOL

well why would you agree? they are palace boys, mostly born and nearly all brought up in South London. I'll always feel pride when I see Moses score for you, Zaha get a cap or Clyne put in another good shift at Southampton. I feel that's something You at Chelsea will rarely, if ever, experience. If you don't encounter it why would you agree?

What's your point?

My point is that your second highest attendance in the last two years was against us in a pre-season friendly. Which really sums up my point about fans wanting to see the top players and have success at their club.

I didn't check the pre-seasons. And that wa 3 seasons ago. And most of that crowd were local Chelsea fans taking advantage of the opportunity to see their team at a cut down price. I know no-one who attended that game.

It was a good thing that Chelsea did for us that day. I believe they let us keep the lions share of gate reciepts to help us out with our financial situation at the time.

Yes, Chelsea did that and it was much appreciated.

Actually, back in the 70's when Dave Sexton was manager at Chelsea, the two clubs were very close. Maybe because he was a Palace ' old boy '.

And that was the Chelsea I had a soft spot for - Osgood, Cooke, Hudson and co.

It's since that odious Russian took over that I developed a dislike for them. Even if we did get those gate receipts !

Sorry to go off the point and its not an arguement I'm too young I weren't born but you said we were close in the 70's but didn't we play someone like tooting and mitcham in the fa cup and chelsea linked up with millwall to come and do palace over and there was massive fights at selhurst? maybe completely wrong but only what I heard anyone know?

No problem. When I said the clubs were close, that didn't perhaps extend to the supporters ! And we played away at Tooting.

The era I was referring to was '71/72 - more senior fans will remember we played Chelsea at Selhurst in the FA Cup and a great game ended 2-2. We lost 0-2 in the replay on the Wednesday at Stamford Bridge, but in their programme notes Chelsea talked about the friendship with Palace and how if they had to go out of the Cup, they would rather go out to us.

Football has definately changed. I have to say that whilst I'll never forget the swaying masses in the old shed I dont long for those days of violence and nastiness, and I am not implying you are. Some great times where also eclipsed by times when the atmosphere was awful. I wouldnt have taken my young kid to games in those days. I once saw an apple with razor blades in it thrown and lodged in a wooden post.
Its one of the reason I dont agree with the 'golden age' of football arguement.

On a seperate note but linked to my original post I notice that Crystal Palace have announched a big investment in their academy, a positive thing. All this brought about by the EPPP introduction.
I recall that Palace fans were very critical of the EPPP at its beginning believing that there best players would be easily 'poached' on the cheap from the big clubs. Are Palace fans now supportive of the EPPP?
