As a club we need to stay in the PL any talk of preferring to be in the championship is all romantic cobblers really - we need the dough.

It took us 10 years to get out the division last time and the club was nearly liquidated. After 10 seasons and over £1bn of prize money its bewildering the state we appear to be in with regard to the playing squad, it's bordering on incompetence. We've not had a proper striker since Glenn Murray and we still only have one left back and have to play right backs at left back when he's injured, similar to when we first came back up - my mind boggles.

Looking at the next seven fixtures I don't see many points coming our way, 2 maybe 4 if we're lucky. Then there's a little run of 5 games when I reckon our season will be decided and we should really be looking to get 10 points from 15 - quite a big ask really with this lot.

I think we may just stay up, but the real question the will be how much we have to spend next season and who we could get in, bonkers really when we should have been plundering the championship for players over the past few seasons strengthening squad depth.

My disillusionment isn't with the PL its with the way the club has been managed. Mid table every season, bringing players through, selling players on, a cup run every now and again and improving Selhurst bit by bit would be fine with me...sod europe. I just hope we don't look back at these PL years from the Championship kicking ourselves on what should have been.

Given our present lacklustre form, can see the likes of Leicester,Notts Forest,Wolves,West Ham and Leeds moving above us in the next few weeks or so,leaving us to battle it out to avoid the drop with Everton,Bournemouth and Southampton.
After such a promising start last season, how has it gone so wrong this season??

When I started this thread we were 8 points clear of the zone.

Five games later we are 6 points clear at least, possibly 7 if everton lose tomorrow.

Considering our run of games that's not bad.

Chelsea, Man utd, Newcastle, Man utd, Brighton. We got 3 points out of that and it could easily have been more.

We still have more tough ones to come, our next 6 are equally tough. But in March it becomes easier.

I would be happy with 2/3 points out of the next 6. We only need 12/13 points from 16 games to be safe.

A tremendous post and who can honestly argue against the points made therein?

It's true that towards the end of the season we have more games against opponents who are easier on paper. However, a lot depends on when the champion and the European Cup places are decided. The later, the better. Otherwise, the easier final run could turn into a nightmare. That is when the top teams turn-up in flip-flops and with their youngsters giving points to our competitors in the table, while we play against "weaker" teams who fight to the death to keep their PL status. And the general problem with must-wins is that they often do not happen especially when under pressure. So picking up a few more in the next games would be more than welcomed.

Only last night in conversation with a Southampton supporter, I asserted that I was not going to condemn his team to relegation when they had 16 games to play and were not seriously cut adrift.

I also opined that Jones would not be in charge for their next game and that they could well benefit from a new manager 'Bounce' !

Good to see your crystal ball and hotline to the Southampton board room is working well Willo..!!

TBH - don’t see the point of your post - unless like always you’re just trying to impress us with your seemingly “limitless intuition” of pointing out the blindingly obvious most of which has no interest or relevance to us as Palace fans..!!

How Rude to Willo

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

With the greatest of respect, my comment was borne out of the fact that someone mentioned words to the effect that it was a tad premature to discuss relegation with so many matches left to play.
I was merely asserting that in a conversation last night with a Southampton supporter I stated that I was not condemning his team to relegation when they had 16 matches still to contest.

You accuse me of trying to impress HOL with "Limitless intuition".Suffice to say I display self-deprecation and not self-promotion.I am just a humble chap, I don't have an ego sprouting as fast as Clematis Montana.

With a name like "Willo",you obviously are a keen gardener and your knowledge of the fastest growing Clematis being the Montana is correct. Very impressive like your 1-1 Brighton prediction !!

'You've got a lot to be humble about'.

Congrats on your correct forecast.
