If a "big club" wanted him, they would have taken him by now. He has to face facts, he's had his chance and stropping every 5 minutes won't help him. Big clubs don't want him. He'll end up playing for a Villa or Leicester! Originally posted by Mojo87
Yup agree with this for the most part. There is no logic in being a one-man for team which is effectively what we are with Zaha as the stats will show; eventually he will go, deteriorate or even retire so we need to be smart. Look at Chelsea for example, sold their best player at the right time in Hazard and rebuilt from there. Whenever or if ever Zaha gets his wish and moves to a "big club", I wouldn't be too surprised if he will be found out a bit. Mourinho doesn't take any nonsense (ask dele Alli, rose), Klopp doesn't either (ask sakho how he ended up at Palace), Guardiola came into Barca and tried to get rid of Eto'o and then Zlatan... He also put Stones out to pasture for a long time until recent events, Arsenal had Ozil out the entire squad selection this season and so on and so on. Yet we all know deep down we put up with Zaha's petulance and antics because we have no one better or other stars - essentially pampering him

I tell you 'Why not'. When he goes into one of his outstretched arms, palms up, furrow browed, moaning, petulant child episodes, he succeeds in nothing except completely losing focus and the fading from the game. My God, does anyone think that professional opponents don't notice this? They know full-well how to wind him up and, consequently, that he will blot himself out of the game as a result. The only person who hasn't realised this is the man himself. Until he addresses this self-destructive tendency, he will never mature or progress to the top level. Watch Lewandoski get kicked up i the air all the time yet keep his composure and destroy the opposition. The cool professionalism is part of what sets him apart on the world stage. Imo, Wilf is the most exciting and yet frustrating players in the division. He's ours, I love him and he is a Palace great but could be a Palace greater Edited by Glazier#1 (03 Feb 2021 3.26pm)

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it.. |

Wilf's antics are bemusing at best sometimes but to be honest I have never really given it much more thought and just accepted it. As much as I'd love him to change in the manner many have articulated he is who he is and in my own humble opinion we have not had a squad in the last 6 or 7 years where he would not be one of the obvious first names on the team sheet for me. Would I like him to 'grow up' and concentrate more on the game - yes, will he change - probably not, would I rather we play without him as a result of his antics - no, has been and still is critical for us.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

One thing for people to think about. If Zaha wasn't the focal point for nearly every game Palace has played for however many years and if he was not one of the only outlets Palace has for counter attacking. Why is it opponents just rotate their players around to foul him if he is too much to handle for their defence. He may fall over easily sometimes and have a strop but he will be the one in the team being routinely fouled far more times than any other player because Palace hasn't had any other players quite so dangerous going forward for some time. Hopefully Eze will bring a change to that and a few more. If he was in a team with a higher calibre squad, I'd dare say he wouldn't be seeming so stressed all the time.

Enough of this waffle. Any news on his injury?

I've written an article arguing why we should sell Wilf this summer, controversial though that may be. Article linked below if you're interested. Be warned it's on a betting site blog so don't go on it unless you're 18+ or are against gambling.

Unfortunately, Wilf's worst enemy is himself. With his talent he should be one of the mega stars in the PL or whatever league he wants to play in but the general perception (if you listen at all to commentators and pundits) is that he is moody, petulant and always seeking attention. We have all observed how it affects his game so I don't know why successive managers and team captains don't appear to have picked him up on it. Was it his attitude that cost him his England place? Such a shame as he is idolised by his followers.

For the price that we pay players wages relative to performance and style output is shocking, so we've got to invest in a more prudent approach here in this regard. A Zaha sale would be a short-term blow but I truly believe in the long-term interests of the club, the right approach to aid the right kind of rebuild for the club.

It is a difficult situation and one that needs to handled carefully. Proven EPL players on free transfers i.e. Cahill give you a proven player though you can expect to pay decent wages. Bringing in unproven but potentially good EPL players is a risk i.e. Eze. He has shown some great things but also some naivety in the defensive side of his game. Get the balance wrong and it could end in relegation. Will be interesting to see how things pan out over the next few months. I really want to see PVA and Schlupp sign new contracts as they are 2 with real pace along with Zaha. It looks like Fulhan, WBA and Sheffield Utd are doomed and there are some good players spread across these clubs that we might be able to sign.

I'm not sure if they will though as so far it has kept us in the league. What's bonkers is how we've managed to end up with so many contracts running out at the same time.
