World Cup ? Benteke's preparations for the World Cup will involve installing his beer fridge, ensuring his connection to Sky tv is good and ensuring the pizza delivery man has the correct address. the only Hawaiian he will be tackling will be with extra pineapple.

Looking at it from Benteke's viewpoint, it must be awful for him as a striker not scoring goals. We can all criticise the fact that he keeps missing chances and has only got 2 all season but he might be going through real mental torment. At the end of the day a striker wants to hit the back of the net each time he/she plays and when this doesn't happen and strikers go through barren runs perhaps supporters don't appreciate it from the standpoint of the player. Of course we can criticise the fact that Benteke has only scored twice and sometimes looks disinterested and languid but deep down he is probably as disappointed and frustrated as we are.

As much as he's been awful in front of goal, I don't really buy into this supposed arrogance or lack of effort - he's visibly shot of confidence, but I've not seen much to suggest he doesn't care; the penalty incident is just about the only time I could accuse him of lacking professionalism. Ultimately, we're stuck with him until the end of the season, and he's one of the few players capable of lifting us out of trouble, so we may as well get behind him.

In the past there was criticism of Benteke hanging back outside the area and not getting in the box with claims that he hasn't been trying or doesn't give a hoot.

Selling Benteke in the winter for 20 million to Everton, Chelsea, China or any other party that has shown to be interested would have meant no financial constraints. For 20 million you could have bought in 2-3 other decent strikers. I’m not sure where you are shopping but 3 decent strikers for 20 million in today’s market?

I think someone said he should be scoring more goals! Believe me, your missing nothing and I tend to ignore anything that Shearer says anyway.
