I'm loving this.

That may well be true, but he's a regular trolling and abusive dyslexic if that is the case.

I wouldnt find it offensive if a black bloke dressed as a stereotypical white bloke but that's just me. However I wouldn't do it because I don't know if it would cause offence or not.

Is it racist - Its racially very insensitive, given the history of blacking up, and then blacking up and going as a beach sunglass seller isn't the cleverest or wisest move, and always likely to be risky. But it doesn't make him a racist. The important question is whether anyone there was offended. Its a pretty stupid thing to do (and if you're going to black up, at least go fantasy or celebrity). He's also old enough to understand why blacking up is very racially insensitive and likely to cause offence. I'm guessing even Antiques Roadshow has been the subject of some sort of complaint. Someone's always offended by something. 99% of the time all we're seeing is costume/ make-up with no other intentions than to impersonate someone of another race whereas this is a pretty direct example of him mocking a particular group. The kid dressing up as his favourite rugby player is a good example of something being absolutely free from any intent to present a negative stereotype. Of course we can't take offence out of the equation and let the intention dictate whether an action is acceptable as people would just around being cnuts blacking up and pleading ignorance but neither can we have people dictating that you can't even dress up as someone from another culture dressing up as something (see Ashley Tisdale and the Day of the Dead backlash).

I wish people would stop telling people what they can/can't be offended by. Blacking up isn't racist per se. The only controversial thing about this costume as he's dressed up as a black stereotype, which some may find a little bit more offensive. That being said, I can't say I'm too fussed about it.

While we're on the subject of 'blackface' I've just come across the term 'yellowface', which refers to the portrayal of East Asian characters by white actors, as I'm sure you can probably guess but the confusing part is this is a term coined by activists who are happy to describe themselves as yellow but not be played on stage or screen by anyone else. The biggest irony though is the criticism of 'yellowface' in the film The Cloud Atlas, where Halle Berry plays Hispanic, Jewish and unspecified indigenous American characters with no controversy whatsoever.
