But there have been many, what I would call borderline racist comments appearing on this site.
I disagree, whilst I understand your sentiment, I personally feel that a xenophobic rhetoric towards the migrants and anti Muslim narrative are rearing their ugly heads more and more in the national vernacular. And in there...the word is "you're". It is short for you are. Are you sure that you are a teacher, Nick??

Interesting that 'your' is slowly becoming more acceptable generally as an alternative to 'you are'. We are seeing language evolution in action. Not slang and not a new hip word to be included in the OED but a genuine linguistic metamorphosis. I feel lucky to be alive at this particular point in history.

Of course it is possible to have a reasoned discussion about these topics, but there seems to be a dangerous acceptance of casual racism. When a national newspaper gives column space to someone dehumanising people in a serious plight labelling them as 'cockroaches' I think you have to question the trend. I think nicks post above is quite important, at the heart of it the issue with Calais is not an immigration issue, but a humanitarian crisis. No it is not. That implies that they are helpless victims which they are not. Every single one of them knows that they can claim asylum in France but does not want to. That is their choice. Not the kids choice though is it? If they are actually kids. You may find a 20 year old Somali in your class one day claiming to be 15. Some husbands and wives claim to be teenage brother and sister. You will know of the private fostering scams that take place to get kids a free education here. You should be supporting controls - it is an administrative issue and does not need to be an ideological one.

More people go to church than go to watch premier league football and the latter is really quite successful
