My Dad and others like him would be wondering about the Freedoms they fought for and achieved if they were all alive today.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

A family frind, Johnny Bremner, served aboard HMS Ursa during WWII. His ship was attacked by subs, dive bombers, and kamikazes. But the story I always enjoyed most was his one about gunfire support on D-Day.
He was serving in the ready use locker for the No.2 Bofors gun, which gave him an eyewitness view of the fighting. He delighted in telling the story of watching a large building with a big swastika on it, blowing up after taking four direct hits from the ship's main guns. He would always follow this with (usually whispered, to save the ears of others): "I hope there were lots of f***ing Nazis in there!"

There are no words to describe the bravery of those landing on the beaches that day. Just following orders maybe but trying to do so in those circumstances is hard to imagine.
I went to Normandy a couple of years ago to see the beaches for the first time and it was genuinely humbling and interesting. My grandfather went into Europe in the waves of troops after D day with the 21st under Montgomery and I still have his medals. He would never really talk about it.

Brilliant, my father was already in Europe...but I thought monty was already there.
He was b in north Africa fighting rommel.my father was in the royal artillery and fought along side him there,he was also in scilly and the famous monte cassino battle (my father that is).

I know my dad will be turning in his grave with what is now "the freedom" he fought for. This country is NOTHING like he and all the other brave servicemen died for. I am afraid we have let them down big time and maybe we should all sit back and ponder where we went wrong and start to do something about it firstly by making all citizens abide by the law and even make stricter laws to curb the way minority groups treat us. The law is what we go by and if some people do not like living by OUR rules then they should go back to where they came from of if born in this country they should just be kicked out.
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Sadly I think it is too late for that ... my grandfatherfought in Africa (under Monty)and Italy (Anzio) ... he would be turning in his grave at the thought of what this country has become.
The reasons I think it is too late is we are now dealing with 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants who were born in this country ... plus there are mosques already built and hate preachers established here.
They say hard work never hurt anyone ... but why take a chance?

I don't believe so. He was in command for the invasion of Italy and Sicily but was then in command of Overlord for D Day.
I have a typed list of all his positions from 6th June that my grandfather had, as he was often in close proximity to Montgomery as I understand. He is listed as being in St Croix sur Mer, Normandy on 7th June

As I said even if they were born in this country we must kick them out if they are causing problems and not abiding by the law. As for Mosques we must stop allowing them to be built everywhere as the are now and the hate preachers locked up for a long long time. We must change the law once we get out of the EU so the EU courts cannot stop us deporting or locking up people. We HAVE to come down hard on these trouble making killers it is the only way and it would help if some of the Islamic leaders would get their communities to tow the line. It seems half of them just turn a blind eye to what is going on around them and hence as we have seen in the past couple of weeks innocent people and children getting killed by some sick people who's religion has no place in our country.

A very poignant day indeed and sombre. Kids as young as 18 taking part and dying. And looking out over to the sea from our house is pretty much the area where 800 or so US servicemen died torpedoed by German E-Boats before even getting to Normandy in Operation Tiger the D-Day rehearsal. Their watery grave and still there to this day. RIP

There were Merchant Navy boys as young as 14 too.
