Speculation rife that board( bored!!) are talking to Dyche and who can possibly blame them as we complete our eighth defeat in a row,a club record.

For his sake, I'd like to see him step down and enjoy life without the worries of Covid and the precarious position of the club with its parsimonious owners. However, he may see coaching - in a protected environment - as a good way to get out of the house, have "fun," and stay relevant, especially if he likes many of the players. And if he left now, the new manager would have less time than usual to get to know the squad. Here's hoping there's a succession plan in place - for 2021-22 at the latest.

Agree. Too much to do, too little time to do it and too much at stake.

If the board are looking to bring in several younger players, their focus needs to be on getting those signings over the line as quickly as possible so they will be available when pre-season training starts in 3 weeks time. Consequently, unless they actually have a new manager ready to sign on the dotted line and start this week, the safest thing is to stick with Roy, who after all has delivered what the board has wanted over the last 3 seasons with a minimum nett spend.

I have heard similar sentiments expressed recently by those who have come to the conclusion that Hodgson needs to be replaced for the reasons stated in the post.However there was no criticism of Cahill!

The view was that we can sign all the players we like but at the end of the day the 'Hodgson way' will prevail, where rigid shape and playing within a 'Straitjacket' will once again bore us into slack-jawed somnolence.

Barring health issues, the only way I see Roy not being in charge come 12th September is if the rumours are true that we want Dyche and he tells Palace it's now or never.

The way Roy set-up this season was to have 8 defensive players with the idea that the front three could try and produce something up top. Ayew was the only one who really produced and hence we didn't score. If Wilf had played like last year we would possibly have had 10 more goals and 10 more points. Roy himself has said we need attacking players and are aiming to bring in youth, all this talk around here of only wanting old workhorses doesn't ring true to me.

Well, to the best of my knowledge, Roy didn't retire yesterday, so it's surely time to close this thread down and those who want to continue to debate the pros and cons of Roy staying on can do so on the other two threads that cover that debate!
