He did well after PV made a balls of it but his master stroke was playing Eze and Olise together. At the time I thought it was brilliant but we’re suffering the consequences this season. There are no surprises with Roy’s team selection so the opposition know exactly what to expect. The only surprises tonight were that he actually brought on a few subs albeit too late and that he was such a grumpy old git in his post match interviews. Seems like someone rattled his cage this evening but his rants were self indulgent and unhelpful. Hopefully this is his last season.

It’s just so frustrating how we stopped having a go second half, sitting there watching them passing it across the back. Although still frustrating, because they were there for the taking after our first half performance, I can sort of understand it at 0-0, but once we were 0-2 and have nothing to lose we should be getting stuck in and try to off load them, Romero to the keeper, Keeper back to Romero, and repeat FFS

Just to vent a bit, I very rarely if ever leave early however tonight I really did feel quite dismal about everything, that with a general knackeredness and desire to get home in any instance, had an awful drive there and long week anyway.

The players out there did look like a shoestring side doing their best to pass as a PL team. Seemed like a ‘cup XI’ in many ways. I think SJ, MG,JA,JL and CD is a solid spine but we looked weak at full back (thought I thought Mitchell played well so only on Ward’s side) and offered hardly anything going forward, masked slightly by Ayew’s typically dogged and industrious performance which makes those who weren’t effective look even worse.

Having Roy then (apparently) show little regard if not disdain for the post match interview and throw the youngsters under the bus is even more concerning.

A real toys out the pram rant for me would include the OG, the lack of players we have/brought in, the general quality of those making up the numbers and the dragging of Roy out of retirement to equally drag us through another non-event of a season, hopefully scraping by without getting relegated. I’m not really in the mood nor do I think the context is too dramatic: losses to Moneybags, highflying Newcastle and a top of the league Spurs, but the general feeling is a concerning one. We always pride ourselves and take faith in being a scrappy unit, from our less glamorous corner of the capital, often conjuring shocks and getting by whatever the weather, with a real flair player or two thrown in. Roy has been a figurehead of this. Tonight however it’s not so much the result, it’s the feeling of a management team perhaps not wanting to be there, a lack of identity in the squad and a weak performance more reminiscent of a newly promoted team than an established PL side, which is what we are.

That’s just a bit off my chest but I’ve not felt this unenthusiastic about Palace for some time, and it is that, not some hysterical, over-emotional whine.

My word we could do with a result against Burnley, I’m dreading to think what the story will be if we don’t.

Agree with most of that there. I didn’t stay long enough to watch much of Franca but it doesn’t sound great. Glad Ahamada played well, I’m quietly a big fan of his and want to see more of him.

It can actually be hard to identify whether we just don’t have the personnel (without Ebz and Olise) or whether it’s the often referenced ‘Royball’ or both.

I’m convinced Roy plays for the 0-0 against clubs expected to be in the top half, and that always opens the possibility for a win if we nab a goal. Tonight we actually had the better chances and completely suffocated them first half, we executed a good game plan IMHO. When that first goal was hammered home by Ward though it felt like an immediate ‘Game Over’, or maybe that’s just me.
