Baby steps, it allows us to spend more time in space. Although personally I just liked the image of 'Motorway Service Stations in Space'. There are points between planets & moons where the gravitational pull is completely neutral meaning any station we build in these sweet spots need the tiniest amount of maintenance to stay there.
