There in lies the irony.

Our country has never been more like pre war Germany and yet 24 hour news is concerned with the numbers on a single football shirt.

Bear in mind that this is not even the whole team, just one squad number.

Meanwhile, complaints about the desecration of our national flag are dismissed by the radical left who are now behaving more like Nazis than Nazis and are aligning themselves with radical Muslims who make Nazis look like choirboys.

Our country was much more like pre-war Germany, during the pre-war period than it is today! And indeed most of the time since.

We are now a tolerant liberal democracy. There are some seriously weird ideas held by the right wing these days! There is a lot of confusion between the development of protections for minorities and a perception of restrictions for others. So long as you respect the rights of others then there are no restrictions.

The law should protect everyone equally. Currently, it is becoming more selective and more focused on speech and less on actual serious crime.
The rights of others are upheld by law, but when those rights impinge on other people's via the law, we have a problem.

Anyone who thinks Rupert Murdoch is just a passive investor hasn't been following his activities for the last 50 years. He doesn't write the daily copy but his influence over the political positions of the media he either controls or has significant involvement in is huge.

GB News gets deservedly criticised. As the right aren't likely to do it then it's mainly those in the sensible centre who do. You can discount the left if you wish. They are as equally biased as the right so can be ignored, but to categorise all the criticism as coming from the left is nonsense. It's just not coming from the right.

Ofcom is a statutory body. It is an independent body which merged several other regulatory bodies into one. It reflects the standards the people as a whole expect of broadcasters. Not the standards of those held by a minority on the right.

That's democracy for you!

Why does GB news rightly deserve criticism? How often have you watched it and why?Whenever I have watched it ( admittedly not often), they always have guests from both sides of the political divide, who all get an equal amount of time to put their views across. Something that other outlets might like to take a lesson from

No weird ideas from the left then?

That's the point. 18 is used in the name of a real group of right wing extremists to represent the 1st & 8th letters of the alphabet. A + H = Adolf Hitler.

Didn't know that. Most people will think it refers to their average IQ.

The shirt thing is a storm in a teacup, but Germany have previous for this sort of thing.
The made the rock band KISS change their logo in Germany because the SS looked like the SS insignia. It was actually meant to look like lightning I believe.
But here is the best part. The two founding members of KISS are Jewish. One is the son of a Holocaust survivor.

Soviet Union, Romania, Sweden, Cuba, North Korea, 1970s Britain....

They always reply 'those countries deviated from true socialism. Stalin was not a true socialist. True socialism is wonderful cos....blah blah'

to which i reply 'oh really, well then Hitler & Mussolini must have deviated from true fascism then ?'

Lots of them but the ideas currently under discussion are from the right.

Surely there is no left or right, they are social constructs?

I think that is a perception held by those whose rhetoric has been under focus but isn’t actually true. Everyone has a right to speak freely so long as they don’t contravene the law. The law is always being modified as society expands and recognises the need for change. Genuine expression of belief spoken, or written, without intention to cause harm or distress should rightly be protected. As JK Rowling found out this week.
