I just don't see the logic in keeping him so that he can play 10-15 games before Kember makes a decision. By all means keep him and bring him on as a sub to be used if the new style isn't work, or even have him in reserve if Palace switch to the long ball game, but it's madness to expect that he will start games!

Heh heh - TommyEagle is obviously having a bad week ;o)

Bottom line is that AA has been here a while now. I fully appreciate he has had his problems with injuries and confidence etc.....

Don't get me wrong I don't condone those who boo him at matches as it achieves nothing.

However - If the ordinary punter on this message board didn't perform at work (for whatever reason) over a period of time then we would expect the push.

Footballers are no different and we should not treat them like gods. Lets face it 99% of them cou;dn't give a sh*t about us or the clubs we have supported all our lives.

Just because the fans have opinions all hell breaks out.

Lighten up TommyEagle

You are fine one to talk about giving some respect when you're on here calling people here idiots and stupid for not agreeing with you!

Practice what you preach pecker!

The bloke looks toilet - simple! He doesn't look able to control the ball or do anything even remotely useful with it. The reason he got on well at Stoke is because they're a sh*t club who's expectation aren't very high - perfect fit for him really as that about sums him up too!

It's not to much to ask in the diviosn when you've spent that much on a player for him to at least show signs of being useful but he hasn't to a lot of us...FACT!

He never asked to be transfered for all these millions but he hasn't done badly out of it at the end of the day has he, so why should we feel sorry for him!

Oh dear, I think you must have left your pocket dictionary at home. Your belief that Mr Akinbiyi hasn't shown any signs of being useful is an opinion and not a "fact" as you so boldly claim.

Far be it from me to call others names because they don't agree with me. No, I am incensed by people making rapid and harsh judgments about a player based on at best no evidence and at worst, total fabrication (eg.Akinbiyi has played 25-30 games for Palace). I have said it before and I will say it again, you can not judge a player who is low on confidence on only 11 starts - it just doesn't make sense. I will reserve my right to call people whatever I like if they are posting total rubbish!

I'm not asking you to "feel sorry for him". I'm making the apparently controversial suggesstion that a player should be given a fair go. This is something that even the manager of our club appears to disagree with, and this deeply worries me.

I also have to say I find it more than slightly amusing to be called "pecker" by a poster by the name of "KAOS". A classy name indeed, brings to mind a 1960s anarchist. Hmmm, well 60s is probably giving you too much credit - probably more like 1940s....

The bloke's s***. He doesn't even deserve 10k a season let alone per week. Getting booed because you're useless maybe harsh but it comes with the territory of being a professional football on high wages. You have to take the rough with the smooth sometimes and booing underacheiving players has been around for donkeys years. Who are we to mess with tradition - and who would want to? Following football has always been about vocal support and sometimes disapproval. Why are people so keen to wrap these players up in cotton wool so as not to upset them so they can go away happy with their 10k for doing sweet f.a. and we go home once again gutted and out of pocket.

No wonder Selhurst Park is like a morgue nowadays - you can't shout anything bad without there being a post-mortem afterwards.

As for Kember's comments on Ade and Rubens, bravo to him. If there's no way a player is going to fit into your plans then why not make it totally clear, certainly helps to speed up the offloading. Surely it's a good thing that he's letting us know what his plans are. I'm well chuffed that he's offloading the likes of AA and is looking for a new forward and central midfielder. It's exactly what I would want the new manager to do so he's already got my confidence.

Play Akinbiyi up front and then we'll resort to the type of football most of us don't want to see played at Palace!

If you want to lump it up to a big target man to either get on the end of it or hold it up (both of which he doesn't appear to do very well) then play him by all means!

I for one don't want to watch Palace playing like that and I think i speak for a lot of people here too! Except Tommy of course - but then what do you expect from a deaf, dumn and blind KID!

why does everyone always assume that just because Ade is big we have to lump the ball up to him? the statistics show that he has been sucessful when the ball is played to his feet. Just because you have a big guy up front doesn't mean you have to hoof the ball up to him.. I think ade fits in to the style of football we should be playing.. neat attacking football with strikers running into through balls, Ade is a proven goal scorer at this level using this tactic.

on the actual topic of this thread I pretty much agree with Tommy Eagle.

Well said Noddy lets move forward and look forward to the new season. We have little money in the kitty and that is not going to change for a long time, i think AA will be the last of our problems when you see what squad we are left with by the begining of the season.

Ummm firstly, it was my impression that wheen the 25-30 games thing came out i think the poster may have been referring to him when he was at leicester... h certainly hasn't played that many for palace

secondly.. when players have been underperforming, which it looks like akinbiyi has, then he should be given a run... in the reserves. there he can rebuild his confidence, get some match practice, maybe score some goals. if he doesnt do absolutely anything in the reserves, then i think someone will add 2 and 2 together and sell him.

if i was him, i would think "im not gettin anywhere at palace, people hate me (i do think thats sad, but its true), maybe i should go somewhere else". if stoke want him for 6k a week, he should take it. the fans will love him there as he saved them previously, he will get a run in the side as he has been gettin there, and he might score some goals, as he has also done there. who knows, he might come back to selhurst park, score a hat-trick, and do the celebration he did when he scored that goal for leicester.

unfortunatly, i think that akinbiyi hasnt got much of a future at palace. im not too sure why we bought him for 2.4 million, when he wasnt doin anything for the club he was at.

ade mate, im sayin this to help you, i think should find a place where u will be happy

That is a disgraceful attitude, and one which is going to get our new manager nowhere in his field of employment. The best managers are fiercely loyal - the ones who back their players to the hilt in public, but give them a b0ll0cking behing closed doors if necessary.

That is what makes Sir Alex Ferguson one of the best managers the game has ever seen. Think back to when Manchester Utd signed Andy Cole for a British record fee - he had a nightmare start and was low on confidence. Everyone was telling Ferguson to cut his losses and get rid of a supposedly substandard player. But Fergie stuck by his man, and transformed him into a Champions League winning striker. Ferguson has shown time and time again that public criticism of players is the worst possible way to go. Look at how the careers of so many players have been turned around under his stewardship - Sheringham and Silvestre to name a couple.

On the flip side, the amusing demise of Liverpool this season has shown the consequences of the manager showing a public lack of faith in his players. Monsieur Houllier does not seem to possess the anywhere near the same degree of managerial sense as his Scottish colleague a few miles away. As soon as players like Gerrard, Dudek and Owen endure rough patches of form you read comments from the manager saying they are not going to be part of his team if the continue to underperform. How's that for inspiring confidence?

If Mr Kember hasn't learned from the "great and the good" in football management, then he should at least learn from old wonky eye's comments about Clinton and Hayden. Criticising your players in public is cheap and only undermines your own cause. He would do much better to stop shirking his responsibility as a coach, and start managing the team in a way which is becoming of a professional manager.

Listen mate,
Ur saying that a manager like Alex Ferguson is great cos ofthe way he treats his players and what hes accheived.
Ok.
But how about this.....
In 1990 after First FA cup final he dumped Jim Leighton out of Man Utd and loaned (ILLEGALLY) les Sealey, well after the transfer deadline had passed all cos leighton let in 3 goals against us.
He treated Leighton with much respect behind closed doors didnt he???!!
More like f**k*ng publicly humiliated the guy and chucked him cos of one match.
Great manager huh?

Alex Ferguson...
The man who say that his players play far too many games and that his english players(what he has of them) shouldnt play pointless england friendly matches and that the league should be made smaller, so that the likes of palace etc can stay out of the top league where all the money is, so that the likes of arsenal, newcastle, moan utd keep the riches.
Remember this: he never talks about the chamions league being changed nor made smaller does he?
no, cos THERES TOO MUCH MONEY TO BE MADE.

a few years back they had the European cup, not league, the players werent so tired then were they? cos they had fewer games, but they realised they could make more spondulux if they converted it to a league.

Alex Ferguson...best manager, dont make me laugh..

ALex Ferguson...
Turned Andy Cole into a Cup-winner...yeah. but ur forgetting the part that he soon GOT RID OF HIM! jessus christ man.

ALEX FERGUSON....
the guy who has more influence than the FA, is this acceptable?

The guy manages a club who take in more money that all the 3 lower english division teams money(s) together!!! and when he wins the premiership, we all say "theyre a great team, hes agreat manager" of course he bloody is! HES GOT ALL THE RICHES TO PICK AND CHOOSE FROM!
put him in charge of Barnet, see what he wins, see if h still thinks the preiership should be decreased. u may see a different fergie.

I include the likes of wenger in this argument and even chelsea etc.

Oh, and champions league huh? man utd get to the quarter finals and they DIDNT EVEN WIN THE PREMIERSHIP LAST SEASON!!! HAHAHA
what kind of champions league is that? it should be re named the champions and runner-ups money making leagues cup.

Ferguson isnt a great manager, he just a good manager who has the most money and cloat at his disposal.

Back to akinbiyi, dont think hes good enough, cant blame him for not wanting palaces wages, but the guy wont fit into kembers style of play, which is pass and move, not needing a target man. And guess what akinbiyi is....
yes! u got it! a target man! a big dopey target man, the way palace and wimblen used to play.

i await ur potentially silly response.

Following that rant (I get the impression you don't like Sir Alex? I wouldn't blame you but calm down for god's sake) I'd like to point out Akinbiyi isn't a target man. When he's been successful its been on the ground. There are stereotypes in football - short guys are fast and skillful, big guys are great in the air etc. and to a large extent these hold true. HOWEVER, there are, as with all stereotypes, exceptions. Adebola couldn't head for peanuts, but he could hold up the ball, run with it, and play a neat through ball. Akinbiyi is similar, but he would be on the other end of the through ball. He has been a fast player in the past, and can strike a ball. On the subject of stereotypes....Tommy Black is 5'7...I'm only going on this from memory, but in open play I believe he scored more headed goals than any other Palace player last season.

On the subject, we need someone who CAN head a ball - Shipperley perhaps? He's done the job for Wimbledon this year

Just another quick note...not in response to anyone in particular...its repeatedly been told that boo'ing goes with the territory for underacheiving players. True. And yes we can't always draw comparisons between footballers and those in 'normal' professions. But equally, we cannot relate footballers wages to the wages of those in normal professions.
