I'm pretty sure that it was when Bruce took over that
ore season. We then went in to sign poppo as linigan's replacement? I could have totally made that up however

Haha, thought so. Yeah he was a proper nutter! I also remember Eric Young KO an Everton player the next season!

yeh that was Martin Keown i think those two had a couple of bust ups during the game and we beat them 1-0

did'nt geoff thomas give him a smash in the chops as well.if i remember he had to go off after that.

Eric Young elbowed Keown in the face during the ZDS cup final (breaking his nose) which went unseen.

A month later during the league game Keown got his revenge in the last minute of a league game (ended 0-0) when he took Keown out. He was sent off for his troubles and Young was out injured for approx 6 months.

George Wood went for Andy Gray on a pre season tour and Gray had to lock himself in his room (as per Ian Wright's autobiography).

Incidentally Ruddock got sent off against Crewe in December so missed our xmas programme, so if anything happened at Gillingham it had nothing to do with him - think we lost 4-1.

I remember Andy Thorn punched then manager Alan Smith and was soon shipped out on a free (despite probably being worth 500k at the time).

There were definitely a few clashes during Coppell's first period which he always diffused by saying he liked his players to be passionate.

I had 3 seperate bets on that game

Palace to win 1-0
1st Goalscorer - Eric Young
1st Goal - Last 10 mins

I then promptly crossed Keown off my xmas card list.

I seem to remember that Ninja had broken through and was bearing down on goal when the challenge occurred. That does sound a little unlikely though and could be a detail I've decided to 'add' over the years

Not Palace on Palace but still my fave was Vince Hilaire pushing the ref over against Spurs in 1980.

Vince's defence of 'I thought he was Garth Crooks' would have worked better but for the fact Crooks was black wearing all white and the ref was white wearing all black...maybe Vince was colour blind.

Dave Madden took that a bit too far though.

You're not wrong - Mark Dennis was the epitome of a nutcase! Although I think he actually ran alf the pitch to actually get involved in a tear up with Gazza lol!!!!!!

P.s - Wish he was playing Sat lol!!!!!!!!!

mark dennis ran over to stop the punch up.i think it was andy gray that belted gazza.and was'nt it martyns debut as our goalie.
but i may be talking poo as well...

Martyn was with us in 1988 so couldn't have been his debut if that happened in 1990.

Martyn signed for us around October/November 1989 and that Spurs game was his debut.

Back in the early 90's I was with a mate watching the team train and Richard Shaw and Dean Gordon came to blows after Gordon got fed up with Shaw continually picking on Tony Scully. it was over in a flash and I guess this happens a lot, week in week out at clubs all over the world.

Not a Palace incident, but I rememeber Dean Gordon at school.
Always 100% passionate in the game in his effort, if you didn't match it he mouthed of at you and would face of at you.

If you tempted fate he would throw a punch as well.

Thats was in the play ground he was worse on the pitch.
