Could I just point out that, while he has been given a new contract, I doubt if it's for very much more money as we don't have it. We're paying 1000 a day for our ground alone as it got sold a few years back (supposedly to keep us out of admin - but there's another story ). What I think he will have got out of it is assurances over player sales so that he can keep his team together.

Oh, and to the person who had a go about him playing squash while keeping you (and us, and Charlton - but who cares about them!), that was our Chairman's idea of a joke . Did none of you see him on SSN?

Sky presenter asked how close EH was to leaving? EM said "Well he was on the train but I dragged him off"

Sky presenter said "Really?!!!"

He has a slightly warped sense of humour )

As an outsider, for what it's worth, I think you could do worse than take your Dougie on. It's very similar to the situation we had with Eddie 2 years ago and it's worked out pretty well for us. He may not have managerial experience, nor did Eddie, but he knows your club inside out and that gives him a huge advantage.

Do the players all like Dougie as much as the fans seem to? That could be key....

Two players (ambrose and wright) have already come out and given him there backing. Danns said something about training today and said the lads are buzzing. Good luck for rest of season

If he was that loyal he wouldn't of even had the interview with us. His track record speaks for itself, i feel its just an ego thing with him,

Let's move on and give the job to Dougie, a man who knows what loyalty is really about.

Great post. Dougie would be a massive gamble, but so would most options potentially open to us right now I suspect.

Dougie has massive respect amongst players and fans alike. Ideally, I'd have like him to learn for a bit longer under George Burley, but it was not to be.

Similarly to Eddie Howe, Dougie is was a loyal player, and an intelligent player who read the game very well (albeit from a different position on the pitch).

Having missed out on Howe, and a good chunk of the transfer window, I'd very much like to see him given the chance - maybe with some experienced additions to the coaching staff to follow and support him (but not a Director of Football - I think the manager MUST be boss in this country).

When Bournemouth gave Howe the job, they were in a similar situation to the way we are with Dougie, i.e. he knows the club, loves the club and YES he is a risk. I think, a risk worth taking.

was thinking this, bit of a tease really! done this before as well.. bit of a time waster, maybe his bottle went! he realised he would have to prove himself, away from the safety net of Bournemouth!

But the point is, how do you know they acted quickly? Answer: you don't

Well Paul Jewell is already in charge isn't he? that would probably let you know they acted quickly

Did you not read a single word I wrote? Paul Jewell taking the job within hours (relatively) of Keane departing does NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT conclusively tell you that Ipswich acted quickly. It only tells you that they had a plan. It may for all you and I know have been weeks that the club has been searching for a manager, and only decided to pull the trigger on Keane once they'd found one who would agree to take the job. Thus, we cannot conclude with any degree of certainty that they acted quickly at all. Of course, it is possible that they did and it all happened from scratch over the weekend, but WE DO NOT KNOW THAT AND THE EVIDENCE DOES NOT PROVE IT. There. Got it?

A very good point, who's to say he would be any good at another club, i say we may well have had a lucky escape, let him stay at Bournemouth and be a hero to their fans,

We've got our REAL hero, For me, Dougies the man !!

Yes, there are similarities between Palace now and Bournemouth when Eddie Howe took over, but they are not absolutely comparable. I don't know the exact situation, but they I think they were in League 2 with 17 points deducted and with probably rather fewer managerial replacement options than we have. I also think that Eddie Howe had had some previous coaching experience at Bournemouth. I'm not sure that Dougie has had any significant previous coaching/managerial experience.
Don't get me wrong, no one is a bigger admirer of Dougie than I am and I would love to see him have a long and successful non-playing career at Palace. However, its one heck of a risk appointing someone very inexperienced to a key position in an organisation that you've invested several m in. It would also be horrible if, like Steve Kember, he wasn't successful and we parted company with him.
Having said all that, it would be such a popular choice and would unite the whole club behind him so it must be a tempting prospect for the Consortium. What a difficult decision!
