Bollocks to this. If he doesn't want to come, let him stay with Bournemouth. In our position, we need someone who's going to be 100% committed to Palace, not a wet blanket looking over his shoulder with a teary eye wondering what he's left behind and getting all emotional instead of knuckling down and getting on with the job of keeping us up.

"I am anguished. People say it's a nice position to be in but it doesn't feel that way - I'm very torn. In some respects I'd rather not have the problem.
"Then you see the players perform like that and it makes it even harder - you see their commitment, attitude - I can't fault any of them. They are more than just a group of players - they feel like family as well. They've never let me down, not once.
"I've got a decision to make over the next few days and it's one I know I have to make. It's definitely not going to be easy."

FFS, grow a pair and make your decision Eddie...it's just a football management job, not the f*cking United Nations. Spare us the emotional pain and anguish please, it's making me feel sick, if you don't want the job that's fine, just let us know and our boys will choose someone else. You're not the f*cking messiah, if you love the Cherries so much then stay there, we'll get someone else!

This is a top post, gave me a good laugh

What's wrong with him taking a little bit of time (Oh my god THRRRREEEE WHOLE DAYS!) to make what is a huge decision for him?

It's not just a change of job, it's a complete upheaval of him/his family & he needs to assess whether he considers himself ready and good enough to make such a big change worthwhile. Not just from his point of view, but from our point of view too. He doesn't want to do us any diservice by making a rash decision when he's not ready.

There's nothing wrong with him having such a huge emotional connection to Bournemouth, the vast majority of his professional career (playing & managing) has been there & he's currently part of a huge love-in with both fans and the players- this is something that is all too rare in football, and how many times do we all whinge about people in football "leaving/only being in it for the money" or "having no loyalty"... and now some of you are having a dig at him for not jumping off his Bournemouth bandwagon like s*** off a shovel.

Let's hope he mulls it over and comes to a decision that is best suited for all concerned:
-We could get one of the brightest young managers in football
-Eddie gets a chance to better himself at a (slightly) bigger club
-Bournemouth get a nice lump of compensation money.

(come to Palace Eddie)

I don't disagree with any of this per se. I think all your points are valid ones. Where I do disagree with you is over the timing. I can only speak from personal experience but for me, I resolve the issues above BEFORE I speak to the prospective employer and not after the interview. It's a waste of time for me and for the employer to spend time interviewing if I am not 100% sure I want to move, my family would be happy to go, I am certain it would be the right career path, etc. So while all the points you raise are real ones, I think Howe has put the cart before the horse in accepting a job interview before he has resolved in his own mind whether he is ready to make the change. And this reality is doing him no favours, and is why supporters are getting increasingly frustrated.

Funnily enough I find myself in a similar situation now. I have had a very good tacit offer for a job overseas on the table since before Christmas, but I have refused to have an interview simply because I do not want to live abroad again, move my kids, etc. even though it would increase my salary and dramatically improve my career prospects and standard of living. And that's my problem with Howe. He shouldn't be interviewing for other jobs until he's certain he's happy to accept the right one. I can understand him soul searching about whether Palace or Charlton were right for him (that stuff, you can only find out at an interview) but not about whether he really wants to leave Bournemouth. If he doesn't know that, like I said, he shouldn't be interviewing.

By all means say "no" because Palace or Charlton doesn't feel right, but not because of something you should have sorted out before you even had an interview (leaving your old job.) Because of this, Howe appears to me increasingly indecisive and unsure of himself; not qualities I personally want in a key hire.

I don't understand, you're saying he shouldn't take interviews for other jobs unless he's 100% certain he wants to leave, but BEFORE interviewing for his next position?

So let's just say for a second he hears Palace want to discuss our vacant manager's position with him. He, as per your guidelines, tells Bournemouth "right, i'm leaving, Palace want me and i'm going to go to the interview tomorrow"

...and then Palace decide after the interview, that Eddie Howe isn't the man they want?

What happens then?

Not wishing to put words in Syd's mouth, but I think what he means that mentally, Howe should've resolved the issues in his head before talking to Palace.

Oh, and on the Coppell/retired comment: I wouldn't be so sure, whatever he has supposedly said in the past.

Can't agree whatsoever with the idea someone shouldn't interview if they aren't 100% sure they want to leave. It makes no sense to me, because some issues may not be resolvable without the information taken from an interview.

I have an interview for a new job on Friday and I have no idea if I'll take it. I need the interview to judge whether this job is going to be right for me, to see what kind of people I would be working for, to see what kind of support I will get, what kind of chances of progression there are. There is information I cannot get until the interview process - and I would suggest it is more relevant in terms of a football manager given the importance of budgets and staff appointments.

The only thing he needed to be sure of before interviewing is that he wanted the chance to be interviewed. If he was 100% happy where he is, didn't have any immediate designs on stepping up a level and had all the support he needs then he wouldn't look elsewhere.

It is perfectly reasonable and logical for an interview to form part of a decision making process.

Just watched the Eddie Howe interview on their website. Must say, he seemed very subdued as well as emotional.

Do you have a link to that interview? I've read the transcript but would like to see it for myself. Cheers.

Does anyone think that this post comes with 1 condition:

1.....The Doug.

If that is not the case then what would be in store for Mr Freedman.
The Doug has admitted that that's his last game "in charge", so in all effect its looking like a Howe Freedman 1-2.

Parish said that it will be entirely up to the new manager which staff he retains - which is exactly how it should be.

Just watched the interview on your website ,Howe is almost in tears when they asked him about his move. By his body language I'd say he was on his way, but its obvious he has a passion for your club and fans.

I could be wrong, but it's quite clear to me Eddie is mulling over our offer and our offer only....

agree with that, he wouldn't leave bournemouth now for a promotion rival surely?

Guy on the BBS has posted the following this morning. Make of it what you will.

"morning guys. just thought i would all let you know that i spoke to 2 very good sources whilst out whom are both conected to bournemouth AFC. they have told me that Eddie howe will not be coming to palace, due to financial reasons, not enough money being offered, state of the squad and also position in the league. him and jason have also been offered another job which is there first choice if they do leave. sorry to be the bearer of bad news."

This may be a bit of a small point but if you listen to the tone of this poster's 'news' it all seems slightly false and in my view smug. 'Morning guys' is an example (just a feeling) and the fact that our squad has potential as others have already mentioned. Take it with a pinch of salt. Could be a Bournmouth fan posting or even just an inaccurate source from a Palace fan. It could also be a Scumwall/Clowns fan having a cheap laugh.

agree - some of these rumours can only be true if they're direct from Eddie Howes dog ffs!
