I've only been going to see Palace since August 1972 so can't speak before then but without a doubt the best all round player to ever don a Palace shirt was Kenny Sansom. He was superb and I was gutted when he had to go to Arsenal (due in large part to his personal gambling debts).
He was a south London boy and had he not had problems in later years could well have broken the appearance record for England - only nine players have played more times for England.
One of the best ever nights I had was meeting Kenny in a bar in Canary Wharf with Jeff Stelling. It was the centenary year and my Season Ticket (the card) had picture of all of the Palace greats including Sansom. Kenny hadn't seen this and was thrilled. I told Jeff that as a long term fan of Palace Kenny was the best I'd ever seen. Kenny was really nice and at the end of the evening his wife came to collect him! Great night, a super guy and the best ever player Palace ever had bar none!

Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)!

I'll say Gardner if it makes him sign for us.

I used to always think McGoldrick was a bit underated. Despite his bollocks afterwards I think Ian Wright is the best player I have seen in a Palace shirt - especially for consistency. He just couldn't stop scoring. Mark Bright and AJ push him close though - perhaps too many penalties for AJ to be considered.

We had a lot of good defenders in the day though: Cannon and Sansom are obvious contenders but Southgate, Coleman and Thorn should be right up there in my opinion.
Lombardo of course and Geoff Thomas both had endless running in them and epitomised work-rate combined with skill, even Andy Gray and Salako were greats for us.

Perhaps Parr is one for the future, he looks like he was literally a steal at the price and Moxey always looks good, I hope we can convince Clyne to stay because I get the feeling he could be a future great.

Currently Scannel seems to be on fire, I hope he can keep it up for the rest of the season - another possible future great.

John Jackson without a doubt - kept us in Division 1 and in any other era would have been England's no.1 for many years.

If we can get onto worst - I still have nightmares over Tommy Langley................

Dougie Freedmen, Geoff Thomas, Ian Wright, Mark Bright, Jim Cannon, AJ, Nigel Marytn, John Salako, John Humphrey, Lombardo, Andy Roberts are all players I have great memories of...However, I would have to say my fav player was always Phil Barber

Johnny Byrne - my great privilege to see him but, unfortunately a pleasure not available to so many on here because it was in the mid to late 1950's.

More recently, dear old 'Bald Eagle' Atilio Lombardo shone like a beacon amongst so much dross in his brief stay here.

Got to go with Johnny Byrne although, talent wise, Matt Jansen is well up there.

Nigel Martyn. Quality international keeper (didn't play enough IMO), our greatest shot stopper and nice person too.
