Gareth Southgate ... v Portsmouth ... late 92 maybe ... picks up the ball from the edge of our goal area, looked up at me in the Arthur, winked and smiled ... went on a jinxing run before slamming it in from the edge of their area ... we won 5-1 ... Armstrong got a hat-trick.

It was against us but a 17 year old Michael Owen took us apart on the opening day of the season 98? Hat trick, his speed was amazing.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

At home to Torquay,if my memory serves me well,December 1961,we won 7-2 and I was standing on the Holmesdale terrace in the second half, the direction Palace were facing.

Johnny Byrne had the ball close to the corner flag to my right. He moved in from the wing and weaved his way past three of their defenders,as he approached the keeper he went round him.Expecting him to tap it in,he went pass the goal, turned around and went past another two defenders and finally tapped it in.

Normally he would of got torn off a strip or two by Arthur Rowe but being well on our way to an easy victory he got off light.

Pure genius who departed for WHU the next season,he had no choice but on reflection,I'm convinced he knew,it was the wrong choice...should have gone to Milan.

That Torquay game, Dec 61, I got beaten up by my next-door neighbour as he had to baby-sit me that afternoon so he missed the game and when the scores were read out I got a fearful beating!

It was the mid to late seventies and spurs had just bought ardilles and ricky villa, I think their 1st game was at Palace? not only were they the best players on the park at selhurst, they ended up as probably the best players in the country.

Every minute Leif Anderson played.

Just for the awesome ironic chants which went on the whole match.

I'm not surprised and he was right to do so I was living in Holmesdale Road then, just at the back of the terrace, well handy that!
