“When I heard Jonathan (Barnett) repeat the figure of £55k, I nearly swerved off the road. “He is taking the piss, Jonathan!” I yelled down the phone. I was so incensed. I was trembling with anger. I couldn’t believe what I’d heard”.

It ain't going to happen but technically it could. If we offered him a contract he was minded to accept, and if Chelsea were minded to terminate his contract with them thereby making him a free agent then we could sign him, and I think if we had an injury in our 25 (which clubs can usually "arrange" )then we could include him. About as much chance of pigs flying, though.

Edited by sydtheeagle (13 Feb 2014 8.06pm)

Er...no we could not. We cannot change our 25 man squad no matter how many injuries we have. The only exceptions ever made are if a club has all goalkeepers out injured.

Why not post something sensible, even if you disagree with the post?
Its a no go and a bit of a fanciful suggestion but no need to insult everyone who has an opinion on the subject.
Nowt sensible to say mate keep your insults to yourself eh?

No reason why Palace shouldn't sign him next year, Prem or Champs. He knows his way there, so come on home. And I believe Chelsea will continue to pay his full wage as it is no more than what they are already paying.

I am expecting to be shot down by everyone and their dog for suggesting we should pursue Ashley, but it may not be as far fetched as you might initially think - though I myself would admit it would be a long shot.

He is a free agent in the summer, and according to this article [Link] is being pursued by some top top clubs. So what chance do we have?

- Well he wouldn't have to move from London for a start, which has obviously been a settled place for him given he has spent his entire playing career here.

- He would be guaranteed a starting place in our team, something he is used to but was starved of this season.

- He would be a huge fish in a still small pond, which i'm sure would suit him down to the ground.

- He began his career at palace, and as everyone likes to mention he did suggest once that he would want to end his career at palace. Although he might have backtracked slightly on his comments, the speed at which he answered the question suggests that deep down he truly would like to return.

- It would be perhaps one of the biggest transfer coups the club have every pulled off, and just think what it may trigger in as much as advertising/publicity revenues and perhaps even a slightly higher profile group of players also interested in coming.

What does everyone think?

There are unconfirmed reports that Monaco are offering him mega money on a two year deal. We wouldn't be able to even offer half what they are offering.

We are still a few years away from an Ashley Cole level player IMO.

I believe Parish and Pulis can get us their though......no harm in a bit of optimism......Ashley Cole is definitely a bit too optimistic at the moment though

He would have been great to take on loan but I don't think he'd be a good move for us. He'd cost a fortune in terms of wages and transfer fee and we'd get nothing much for it (in terms of defensive play or in terms of resale value).

He is going to be 34 this year and he is a small defender that relies on his pace - which he is losing. If we are going to invest that much on a player then I'd rather we wasted it on trying to bring in a striker.

were not going to get him on loan...if he signs a new deal with chelsea then that wont be to loan him out.

he could get massive wages still at another top club home or abroad for 1/2 years...tho if we was willing to accept 30k a week to be guaranteed playing every game in the PL then i, like everybody else would absolutely love it if he came here.

i rate the chances of this transfer happening as pie in the sky.

Ashley Cole has announced he will be leaving Chelsea in the summer. So would you have him back and do you think we have a chance.
Still a great player in my opinion.
