Will cost us a shed load!

Rhodes cost Blackburn £8m.
Defoe can leave Spurs in Jan for £6.5m.

Rhodes is unproven at this level, Defoe is proven at all levels including International.

Rhodes?

Where we're going, we don't need.... Rhodes.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Defoe is also ten years older. £6.5m for someone who probably only has a season or two left at the top is a hefty investment.

In terms of a long term investment, if we're going to fork out that much on a forward, I would rather Rhodes.

Plus surely if Palace play the type of football under Pulis which is likely, (which I'm not knocking, it's a means to an end - that end being premiership survival) then Defoe is neither particularly physically strong or that adept at holding the ball up whilst support arrives. He's quick and he's a poacher but he needs the ball in the box with support players running through, playing the formation we have been, that simply is not going to happen.

Rhodes on the other hand whilst I accept is unproven on a Premiership level is over 6ft and fits that criteria perfectly

Plus he's a big lad, Pulis loves a big lad!!!

Rhodes may be big , but he is just a great finisher that's it, his hold up play is poor and no better than Defoe , he also relies on good service where as Defoe is capable of scoring from nothing.

Rhodes, Zaha and Ince upfront would scare the daylights out of people and pretty much guarantee our survival in my opinion.

Quote comeonyoueagles20 at 26 Nov 2013 2.31pm

his hold up play is poor

Michael Appleton said earlier this year when he was manager of Blackburn that he wanted him to be better holding the ball up.
But, he has so many other qualities.

The fee was not dependant on clauses, just agreed instalments up to £8m, so Blackburn have to pay it no matter what, and they can't currently afford to do so.

Rhodes is on a reported £37k a week, combined with an estimated £8-12m transfer fee, that's an enormous investment for a player I'm not convinced we need.

I'd rather see that spread over 3-4 players to strengthen other areas of the team.

If I had read your post of a couple of hours ago I wouldn't have felt the need to post as I did.
