Facts are(for whatever reasons)she lied more than once.Punishment follows. The lenght of sentence was imo lighter than it could/should`ve been.

Personaly,I think she`s a lot cuter than you`re giving her credit for.

Quote Bexter at 19 Dec 2003 10:44am

so you think all that time in custody being bullied by other inmates wasn't punishment? the fact that she will never be able to lead a normal life, the fact that she still has time to serve.... i don't think that's lightly imo...

Not a fraction of the sentence of the two girls families. As for the girls themselves,God rest their souls.

Quote alexh_17 at 19 Dec 2003 10:56am

Not wanting to continue this, but perhaps the Judge took into account that when Carr finishes her sentence, chances are she is not going to be accepted back into society with open arms. She will be punished for the rest of her life, as will Huntley.

Two young girls have been murdered, and the sick individual responsible is behind bars. The woman who tried to protect him, rightly or wrongly, is now behind bars. Though she may have a lenient sentence, she is still going to be 'serving' another for the rest of her life.

Bollox mate.I`m entitled to my opinion and that`s my take on it.

Can you truly say in your heart of hearts that it`s not possible she is a bit smarter than she pretends?

Maybe I should`ve said"smarter" instead of "cuter",is that what griped you?I didn`t mean cute in the traditional sense - must be the Irish coming out in me.

Sorry mate if you got the wrong end of the stick but nothing griped me at all. I see what you mean now you've said "smarter", and If that's the case I agree.

By the way, she isnt as timid as it may seem. She bottled someone once. Sound like the niave ol' Maxxy babes we thought she was?

good job you weren't in the jury eh? hanged or banged up for life for giving an alibi to a loved one, whether it was blind love or fear..... ?!
and pete, women are continually bullied and beaten up but still remain fiercly in love with their men - who are you to judge her feelings toward huntley? or is love always a conventional fluffy little world?

Surely love cannot be used as an excuse! She should not be rewarded for ignorance anyway! Not that I believe she is innocent or stupid enough to be ignorant of his crimes.

Quote alexh_17 at 19 Dec 2003 12:54am

The first I've heard of this, but if thats true - surely a reason to provide him with an alibi, i.e. FEAR?

I'm also glad you know more than any of the jurors who heard every detail the Courts deemed relevant to the case.

And I would agree with Bexter, perhaps not truly believing he was innocent so much as loving him to an extent that she would not accept he was guilty?

Of course I know more than the jurors ya numpty! Since when was a jury privy to ALL the facts such as a defendant's previous? NEVER! Now the case is over the media are free to air the TRUTH about Huntley, and they certainly have!

What part of "SHE KNEW WHAT HE WAS CAPABLE OF, KNEW ALL ABOUT HIS PAST" do you people not understand? What part of "HUNTLEY RAPED CARR, SO SHE KNEW WHAT HE WAS" do you people not understand? What part of "CARR GAVE HUNTLEY A FALSE ALIBI AGAINST A RAPE CHARGE" do you people not understand? What part of "SHE KNEW DAMN WELL WHAT HUNTLEY HAD DONE BUT STILL COVERED FOR HIM" do you people not understand? That bitch could have prevented this, she chose not to. If she was so terrified of Huntley, why did she come rushing back from Grimsby to give him an alibi and get him bailed when he was safely behind bars? Fear? Bollocks! Wake up!

I must admit; the death penalty probably is an easy way out for the b******s, that much I do agree with Bexter about, it's a bit of a knee-jerk reaction, but I'd sure feel a lot better if life meant life, and that life meant a life of seriously 'Hard Labour'. These b******s should be forced to do back-breaking graft for the remainder of their sorry piece of s*** lives, not left to lay around twiddling their thumbs all day!

Bexter me old sparring partner of old, I believe wholeheartedly in love - I've loved my wife (more than life itself) since the night we met some sixteen years ago, without her, I'd be lost, I love her more with every passing day -but I don't - I won't! - believe in 'unconditional love', my belief in moral decency demands it. The decree which I live by, above all in my life, is; 'Good over evil', it's simple and idealistic but if there's anything in this s***, filth-ridden world worth taking up arms and fighting for; it's good over evil, and that decree demands that I have no choice but to dismiss 'unconditional love' as an incredibly selfish and morally devoid concept. If I discovered my wife was a monster, she would then; not be the woman I thought she was; the woman I love, and so my love would die.

Some of you see a woman whose only crime is lying to save the skin of the man she loved. I believe you are very wrong and very naive indeed, and so do the jury of the case in question, they found her GUILTY.

Some of us see an absolute monster that knew exactly what Huntley was and what he was into, knew what he was capable of, knew what he had done, and chose to help him anyway!

firstly, don't believe all you read in the media - surely everyone knows that? they are loving sensationalising this story and that in itself is gross. how do you know that she knew he had done it? and what's her previous - anything that says she would help a murderer of small children? and even if he did rape her - which i have never read or heard about, then why should she assume he would also be capable of killing kids? unfortunately rape is very common within relationships, and fortunately child murder fairly rare.
and it's heart warming to hear about how you personally deal with love, if only all were like you, but it can be a very controlling and blurred thing for some, especially vunerable people prone to eating disorders etc..

Bexter, why is it when you're confronted with a strong argument, you always resort to your well worn statement "don't believe everything you read in the papers" chestnut? Can't you for once respond with a valid argument in the face of such damning evidence? If a girl who was Carr's best friend says Huntley raped Carr, I'm gonna give that girl the benefit of the doubt, because she was there, so she probably knows more than you do! If a bloke says he had a fight with Huntley and knocked him out for beating the s*** out of Carr in public, I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt, because he was there, you weren't! If a girl comes forward and tells her story of how she was brutally raped by Huntley, so badly she can't have children because of the internal damage inflicted, I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt, coz she was there, you weren't! Carr knew ALL of this!

Fact: Serial rapists often progress to murder.
Fact: Paedophile's often progress to murder.

Carr knew Huntley had raped on more than one occasion.
Carr knew Huntley was violent towards women.
Carr knew Huntley had a 'thing' for very young girls.
Carr knew Huntley was a liar and a conman.
Carr knew Huntley should not be working near children.

Together they defrauded a charity.
Together they defrauded social security.
Together they are guilty of the deaths of two innocent young girls, and all your do-good liberal hand-wringing can never change that.

The bottom line is that she KNEW she was lying wether she believed that Huntley had murdered the girls or not.In doing so she was putting other children at risk from Huntley while the police were exploring alternative avenues.Should someone get a lighter sentence because they may have low self-esteem or been anorexic in the past? What a nonsense! To be incarcerated is`nt nice but then Maxine Carr did have the choice to not put herself in that position.Let`s just remember that the most important people in this case are those two little girls who have no choices at all any more and their parents who are now serving a life sentence of their own.
Still,we live in a democracy and that means that a minority are allowed to put forward their own sometimes obtuse reasoning.Lucky for them;a lot of good men in the past sacrificed their lives just so they`d have that oppurtunity.I`m sure they appreciate that:I hope.
