CPFC Sydney Supporters just had a great night with Alan Smith who told some amazing stories of cpfc back in the day. Touching on the fa cup run, league cup, and personalities like Nodes, Jordan, Wright & Bright, Ruddock to name a few.

We need a first openly gay manager or ex-manager.

He did give me a peck on the cheek when I went in for a manly hand shake and chest bump come to think of it.

Lovely bloke though with some interesting and very funny stories about Noades and Jordan in particular and also revealed some crackers about players we all know and love from yesteryear.

A more spectacular managerial implosion has rarely been achieved once, let alone twice by the same person. Alan "I was a success in the City and I'm a millionaire in my own right" Smith has a lot to answer for, unnecessarily taking us down once and then incompetently taking us nowhere the second time around. Or was that Alan "I'm like a father to Gareth Southgate" Smith I'm thinking of. Probably the only thing Simon Jordan and Ron Noades will ever agree on is that Smith -- at least as a manager -- is a complete prat. But I'm sure the evening was fun, mind.

His son lives over here so he came to visit and watch the cricket, Jordo got in touch with him via twitter. He said Palace were a really special club but he felt so bad about how it went tits up for him under Jordan he felt he can't really go back. He's got some good yarns though, and after a few beers he certainly didn't mind telling them.

He approached Jordan initially to go back in as SC's number two to bring back the good times back but as he did Jordan offered him the managers job as he said he couldn't work with SC.

If nothing else, Jordan's descriptions of SC and what it was like working with him are, in his book, absolutely hilarious.

Yes, must admit I've heard a few of his stories after a few beers. In earlier days not such a sensation, but I suppose if that was today, he'd be all over the papers with his comments!
