Jim Cannon, Peter Simpson (maybe) or Arthur Waite. Although the latter does have a stand named after him. A statue should be as much a symbol to contribution and achievement, as an individual honour.

All of those three people symbolise something exceptional about Crystal Palace, Football and what the fans experience now.

Certainly Jim Cannon and Arthur Waite are iconic in Palace history. One represents everything we believe a player should be, the other transformed the club itself, as well as embodying the ideal of our club as a local club and part of a community

We should wait for someone who has done something especially spectacular on a larger scale, eg, won a cup, played a lot for their country etc.

I wouldnt want people turning up to Selhurst and seeing a statue outside of an absolute nobody to everyone else except palace fans (have any non palace fans ever heard of Jim Cannon?). It would give ammunition for other fans to be degrading of our history IMO

It would have to be a household name IMO, and we havent had too many of those.

I am really up for things like the wright and bright bar, and Speroni's restaurant, and would like to see this extended (see no reason why it wont be either) but I dont think yet we've had anyone quite at the level to get a statue.

Geoff Thomas, (footballing and his overcoming of his cancer) would get my vote if we had to have a statue.

Let's be honest, we haven't had any players who are worthy of a statue. We've had very few great players, even fewer at the peak of their career and no one has ever lifted a major trophy for us. Surely to be 'legendary' enough to warrant a statue, it would need to be a recognisable figure in the world of football outside of CPFC.

Absolute bollox.Jim Cannon every time. You sir are a knob....

Thanks mate. I have to say, Jim Cannon was before my time but as far as I can make out the argument for him is that he played for us for a long time. I don't think that says great things about our club if that's the greatest achievement we can look for. Compare that to other clubs;

Billy Wright
Tom Finney
Bobby Moore
Best/Law/Charlton
Alex Ferguson
Peter Osgood
Brian Clough
Billy Wright
Bobby Robson
Alf Ramsey
Stanley Matthews
Gordon Banks
Thierry Henry
Billy Bremner
Don Revie
Dixie Dean
Bill Shankly
Jock Stein
Jackie Milburn
Emlyn Hughes
Nat Lofthouse

If we had to do this, I would say it should be Wright & Bright, who were at least iconic in a small way - but I don't think we should do it for the sake of it.

More bollox!

The idea of a statue is not to show off to away fans imo.And if you are waiting for a Cup winning captain or great international player we could be hanging on forever after all we havent had one in over 100 years!
To see a clenched fist Jim Cannon, maybe the pose when he scored at Millwall in the last minute would galvanize our fans on arrival at the ground.Over 650 games remember that and even in our worst era his head never dropped.True legend....

You sir are a modern football fan... having statue outside your ground is not about pleasing or showing off to fans outside our club its about representing our history and should have absolutely f*** all to do with what other people think.

We have had loyal servants to our club over our many years and many candidates that we could honour. Your attiude is that of the modern football fan and everything that is wrong about football today.

Charlton and Southampton have statues of people who could only be known within their clubs history. Pisses me off that you get idiots who think you have to be messi to be honoured. For me that shows a complete lack of understanding of what it means to be a palace fan

F*cking hell you're clever.

If you're going to immortalise a sportsman in bronze it has to be to celebrate achievement. Anything else is an embarrassment and it has nothing to do with modern football.

What about Wilf? As I recall, he was quite useful. But then again, so was Dougie.
