Just wanting to wish all the best for the rest of the season, particularly next week against Sunderland, would love it, just love it if you beat them on the way to stopping up - we will attempt to do our bit by beating Fulham and putting them out of picture.

Had only ever seen Newcastle play and lose against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park - 3 occasions i think and the atmosphere was abysmal from the home fans (which somehow made the defeats more galling). So was not expecting too much in December, but what a trip, a palace lad got me, my mate and his 9 year old son tickets in the place part of the Arthur Waite stand (only way we could get them) - he met us for beers and banter in the high street, one of the best parts of the game was when the teams came out to Glad All Over - looked and sounded brilliant as the whole ground joined in. A kind steward let us in with the Newcastle fans and our end was full of the christmas spirit but all god natured fun - saw the whole crowd at half time part to allow a disabled lass get to the beer stand first. I will not dwell on the game, all things considered the atmosphere was brilliant, our away support is always like that, win or lose, however we could learn a lot from you lads at home.

After the match headed towards Norwood train station, had a couple of beers in a cafe there, then went for some cans for train back, then decided to go in the bar on the corner near the station, bouncers looked after our cans whilst we went in, what a brilliant time we had, Stiff Little Fingers belting out Silver Linings as we walked in, whole bar was going mental, we ended getting carried away with it to the extent i missed my train to london and my connecting train home, if we did not have my mates son i think we would of just stayed there, it was great (begs the question whats it like after you win a big game ?). I have talked to loads of people who were at Palace and overheard comments and stories of how their day was, everyone wants to go back next year, so fingers crossed.

Any of you travelling up this weekend to Sunderland, my advice, drink in Newcastle and get the Metro through, go to game and come back to Newcastle, you will have a far better time, be welcomed with open arms by the lads and more than likely the lasses. If stopping over Newcastle is a good night out, so is Tynemouth on the coast, also Jesmond, you will get no hassle........Sunderland on the other hand is a bit backward in the respect (not rivalry talking here). So good luck, hope it all works out for you, next year i want to be stopping down for the weekend.

Thanks also for the tips re Sunderland...not sure if I'm doing that one yet, but I'm definitely going to Newcastle the week after and staying over on the Saturday night. Looking forward to sampling the nightlife.

Jarrowmag, Have you ever been in the away end?

I've been a few times,mainly in the corner very high up. Last time was nearly behind goal but again over 200 steps to get up and then another 50 or so to get to my seat which was at back. Additionally it is one of the steepest inclines at any ground, which I suspect was the steepest you could get away with Health and Safety.
I realise you have lifts, but have you ever thought of hiring out sherpas with mountain goats?
And perhaps mini binoculars to see what's happening at the other end?

I've never been up to Newcastle but one thing I've noticed when I've watched us play Newcastle at Selhurst (only a couple of times but still) is that the away fans create a good atmosphere but there's no attitude. Good relations between home and away fans in the pub before the game too.

Hoping I'll have more disposable income for away games next season, would love a trip to St James'
