I would say Liverpool and man utd have the largest Asian support more than any other team ive seen.
Now in liverpools case that's got nothing to do with community as there is no Asian community in Liverpool.
They come from all over the country to watch them.

There's a pretty big Chinese community in Liverpool.

As a black fan, i would say that the way to generate more fans from other ethnic groups is to start by appealing to kids. When i was in primary school my headteacher (palace fan) would often have 2 games a season where it was encouraged for the whole school to go with a parent for cheap prices, which was a great day out.
There's also the fact that many parents in the area came over and supported the better teams of their generation when they we're teens/young adults, and this is passed onto their children, but it can be broken. My dad is a united "fan" and i broke away from the norm and supported palace, and have loved every moment of it. It will be a slow process but give it a generation or two and there will be changes i think.

Yes. But they wash the team strips and cater for the fans after the games.

Just kidding

Good question...

As a Lambeth born Palace fan of Asian decent, I think as some of the previous posters have suggested, its got a lot to do with family, I would have thought a lot of our supporters were introduced to the club via another family member, Dad, Uncle etc taking little their son or nephew down to Selhurst for his first game and support the local team. Certainly in the Asian community, in my age group, a lot of my ethnic peers support Liverpool, as they were the successful team of the time, and because there was no family connection or allegiance to a particular team.

With me, it was more about supporting my local team, and if I look at our team in the late nineties, the ethnicity of our team was a reflection of the demographic of the area, more so then some other teams, which I thought was great.

If the crowd does not reflect the local demographic then there is something wrong. It would be really difficult to target ethnic groups without appearing to be desperate, patronising or both. I think those who say that the club should target local school children n general are right.

Is the right answer.

Many people that go to Palace do so because as small children they were taken by a relative. The first generation of Black and Asian people to arrive post war probably didn't come from a history of football and saw it as irrelevant. Then when their children did get into football, why would they take an interest in Palace when there were some sexy teams to support. They didn't have the family allegiance so could choose for themselves. Now their children are probably mostly following in their footsteps. Hopefully in due course the schoolkids will get some peer pressure to support their local team and Palace should carry on targeting schools for deals.

I wonder how it is for cricket, are there big communities of black and asian people supporting Surrey? The first generation came mostly from cricket mad countries.

The current generation of black people have lost interest in cricket in this country. In the 70's and 80's the oval was packed with black people whenever the West Indies were here. Now there is nothing. Asian people still have a massive interest in cricket and it is reflected locally in club teams.

My point is you said there is no Asian community in Liverpool. I used to live there and I'm letting you know there is.

The local ethnic mix goes beyond people of Afro Caribbean or Asian descent. It would be nice to get some of the Eastern Europeans, who have come to London. Some enterprising person could start a Polish or Lithuanan language Facebook page tapping them up for support?
United Nations of Selhurst.!

If only I could have put it as correct as you this is what I meant in my earlier post but blunted it down to most black people support Arsenal, Liverpool, UTD and some Chelsea. except for the genuine black football fans who support the club in their community. Villa and Birmingham being great examples. If we can become established in this league we can maximise our massive potential as a club.

Funny you should say this because I have worked with Russian and Polish Plumbers. They all happen to be Palace fans. The Polish family are from Gipsy Hill and the Russian family come from Plaistow. The Russian Family may have a few teams closer to support however they liked our fanatical support and likened it to Zenit which was there homeland side.
