I was at Wembley to witness the Claridge shinner. Losing at Arsenal and getting relegated after appearing to be safe. The worst of all though was The Clowns defeat to get relegated. I worked with some Clown season ticket holders and as soon as the fixtures came out, they said that they would put us down. It just seemed enevitable. One of the pr1cks said how he recorded the game and kept on watching it.My boss was one and he kept singing the stupid song We put the Palace down. Well who's laughing now ? Ar5hole5 !

Being relegated by Charlton in 2005 although in general it kills me when we sell our best players

Probably this for me, I was sure we would stay up! The oldham one was painful but standing at Arsenal I had this terrible feeling things weren't going to turn out well. Losing to Watford in the play-off semi 1st leg was bad, again I was sure we would win.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

Would love to see them go down with Milldew.

Two bad memories that oddly mirror eachother. Firstly Palace had a spell in the old 3rd division under Malcom Allison. Palace 'won' the division three years on the trot, but on the first two season they tailed off badly after leading the division by 10+ points. Went down to Bournemouth, not a particularly difficult fixture, but were stuffed 4-0. The ball came into the crowd and we held onto it for ages, trying to stop the game for a while.
Following season exactly the same. Well out in front of the division, then a game at Gillingham, an even easier game than going to Bournemouth. Again completely mashed 4-0.
At times like this I was terribly gutted. What was Palace to do to get out of that dead man's league?
The following season went to Gillingham with a few supporters and Palace won 1-0, an own goal settled it. That was the luck Palace needed. Promotion, Samson and the team of the 80's came along. The best of feelings. Just goes to show where there is total despair there is also elation. Like Marriappa says today, do not get too excited with a win, nor too low in defeat.

Prior to Adrians post, Tuesday April 30th 1974 was, and still is the most painful time as a Palace Fan for me.

We needed to beat Cardiff Away to avoid relegation to the old Division 3.

Big Mal did his famous walk onto the pitch and predicted a WIN for us.

He played Mel Blyth up front.

We drew 1-1 and were relegated to the old 3rd Division.

Plus It was pissing down with rain.

Have had to wait until last Saturday to gain revenge on Cardiff City.

I'm not bitter.!!!

I'll tell the whole story, because it gives it a bit more weight.

I wake up on my birthday, May 27th 1996, having just turned 8. I didn't have anything particular planned, but I was woken extra early, and was told my uncle was picking me up. I was completely oblivious to football, at least to the point that I wasn't aware of what was happening later that day.

Pretty sure I fell asleep on the way down south somewhere, but we pull up outside a house on a quiet residential estate, and another of my uncles meets us at the door. I sit down on a sofa in a house I've never been in, my uncle reveals a plastic bag, and one by one pulls out little bits of Palace memorabilia. I recall a key ring, one of my uncles shirts, and finally the tickets. We are going to Wembley.

Wembley was this mythical place for me and yet at the same time I don't think I appreciated the history of the place. I remember getting my face painted, pulling on a shirt that was more like a dress, and having my hair painted in red and blue. My memories patchy, but I can remember getting a burger or something from a van, and then being in awe at the scale of the stadium.

The match is patchy; I can remember not seeing that much (one for Willo and standing), but I remember the moment Claridge scored, and turning to my uncle and asking "What's happened?". I can't really remember what happened next.

What I do remember, more than anything, is the drive home. You have to bare in mind, I lived close to where I do now, in South Leicestershire. Straight up the M1, bus after bus of jubilant Leicester fans. My face is still red and blue, as is my hair. I've either removed my shirt or put a jumper on, I can't remember.

For the entire journey back, I had my head in the arm rest at the back, with a towel over my hide hiding the colours. As an 8 year old, I couldn't understand why I was hiding. In hindsight, I think my uncle was so gutted, he couldn't face any banter with passing Leicester fans, but I couldn't understand why, despite losing, you'd be embarrassed to support a team? I felt as proud as a lion to wear that shirt, and didn't really understand the occasion enough to feel the proper kick in the balls.

Still, from that moment, I hated Leicester fans (more), haven't let my uncle forget, nor have I ever said I'm a Palace fan with anything other than sheer pride.

Last May, I am not joking, I had all sorts of flashbacks like some sort of acid induced trip. My head went when my cousins were having their hair and face coloured, wearing shirts too big for them. On a personal level, last May and with Phillip's penalty, healed so many wounds.

That's a close second for me. I was only 9 but I still remember the sick feeling in my stomach knowing that our chance of glory had gone as we'd never beat them in a replay.

Plenty, but one that still wrankles is the Cup Semi in 76 and it still hurts today - My 9 year old self genuinely thought we were going to win the FA Cup

St Paddys day. I wasn't even meant to be going to the game but won a ticket through a Hol radio competition. Knew I was going to the beamback with kells so tried to give the ticket to side-o. Jel knew that Side-o wouldn't be able to take it so I accepted it and spent the next week trying to get a ticket for kells. In the end I managed to get one and we went to the game. Well you know what happened next. Still without that game then the semi second leg wouldn't have been quite as superbly enjoyable as it was
