I've just seen the most despicable post ever on this site. Rob 1969 thinks there's no chance of Europe soon, but Palace will probably be propping up the Championship. With support like that the club are probably pulling out their hair and wondering if it's worth having a team at all. FAITH.

You haven't been supporting this club long have you?

Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial

Top ten finish with a cup run or two would be great. Making the Europa League can be a double edged sword.

Indeed.
Under Pulis Stoke finished in 12th position in their first season in the Premier League. The following season they finished 11th.

First game about 1960. More relevant, been on this site less than a year.

It is worth noting that Pulis' worst PL finish with Stoke City (14th) was the year that they competed in the Europa League, with fatigue and injuries exposing their lack of depth toward the last quarter of the season.

Trust me, Europe is over rated.

That season proved to be the downfall of Tone.

To be fair, we had a tough draw. Russia, Turkey, you couldn't get more far reaching fixtures. We played on a Thursday, and you could guarantee we would get well beaten on the Sunday.

Officiating would prove to be a nightmare, with the standard set very low.

Pulis was given alot of money that season, and over paid on most of the signings. 10 million for crouch, 8 million for Palacious, the list goes on.

However, like the best managers, I believe he constantly wants to learn and improve, as a manager, and believe he's a better manager for it.

Your goal should be to establish yourself, invest in the academy, improve the ground, and stabilise the club . The longer you are in the top league, the less you should have to spend on transfer fees. If you can expand your scouting network , you should be able to attract the quality you need. (We spend 7 million on a new training ground to achieve grade on status)

We have found success in scouring the German leagues, with small fees paid for some very young and exciting prospects. To give an example. We paid 5 million pounds in transfer fees this season, with the outlay given to young, talented players, from Europe. Moneyball players, who had something to prove. It took some time, but have improved us. I firmly believe that this is only possible if you are an established club, and have the core already in place.

Once you have spent four or so seasons in the elite, and have the depth and experience, I believe this is the only way forward for teams such as ours.

I think our somewhat unexpected strong finish to this season has over excited some people. I suspect next season will be another lower half table battle. Hopefully we'll be better equipped this time.

When have we ever done anything carefully????
Yeah, I get the point about establishing ourselves as a Premiership side, investing in the 'facilities' etc.etc.etc.......BORING!!!! Let's get stuck into Bayern & Barca. Iv'e waited a life-time for this club to really strut it's stuff and I don't believe for one minute that any of us who've spent our Saturdays trolling around places like Carlisle, Port Vale and Tranmere in past seasons wouldn't give our eye-teeth to be able to look the supporters of our so-called 'elite' clubs in the eye and say we're there on merit not money.
Why can't we do both, invest and achieve....3 seasons to Europe, PUT MONEY ON IT!!!

I would be content with another year of survival. Crazy to think of Europe in my opinion. We have had an unbelievable season, but hopefully we don't go overboard in our expectations. I would take a couple of years finishing 15th-11th and improving the infrastructure of the club. Hopefully more youth players get a chance and we gradually improve the first team as well. I think that should be our ambition for the next couple of years. A good cup run would be nice.

That's not boring, that's common sense. Boring is being in a one horse race, like Celtic. Nothing to play for until they go to Europe. It may be bragging rights to get to Europe, but if it is at the expense of top a flight position, do you really think it's worth it?

Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers
