His first goal was the sign of a quality finisher, opened his body and calmly sidefooted it home. I'm afraid dear old CJ would have put it in the upper tier.

You are right - he has a cool head.

And for the record I would like to say I would love to be proven wrong.

give it 3 days.....

What happens then?

We wake up from this crazy dream and find Holloway took us down with 4 points.

Oh well, it was nice for a bit.

When you consider;

Roberto Soldaldo £26mil 6 goals, (4 of which pens)

Andreas Cornelius £8 mil 0 goals

Rocky van wolfswinkel £8.5 mil 1 goal

Jozy altidore £6.5 mil 1 goal

Was gayle (4.5 or 6mil) with 5 goals really a bad signing? And think of what could have been if the relegation battle was closer. winner at villa, brace against scousers, secured sunderland home 3 points by winning and scoring pen. Also scored against west brom away in fa cup.

Now Sami Mokhel of the Mail suggests Pulis wants to be rid of Gayle--cheap journalism.Had Neil Ashton, a true palace fan and their senior football correspondent penned the same article ,it would have had some substance

I have never been a fan of Gayle and have made my position on him clear since the Stoke game earlier in the season.

However, I have to admit he has much more about him than I gave him credit for. Against Liverpool this season, for example, he has scored with his left foot, his right foot and his head. Some achievement.

Where I foresee a problem is how we get him in the side. He needs a strike partner and appears to have one of those instinctive relationships with Murray. However, this would mean us playing two men up front and thus losing someone from the midfield.

Gayle is obviously a natural scorer, the way he took the two goals against Liverpool, well there was never a chance he would miss and we do not have a player remotely like this at the club.

If TP can work on his game and get success then he will be a very valuable player next season and beyond. However, he needs to have a more physical presence, needs to do some of the work a player like Jerome does and needs to learn how to pass the ball.

I credit TP with almost reinventing Bolasie. The guy now tracks back and gets tackles in, moves forward with pace and purpose and is considerably less wasteful than he was previously. I hope TP can get some similar improvements in to Gayle's game.

I have not changed my mind completely about Gayle but I am considerably more hopeful that the lad can make the grade.

Above is a very good point. Just goes to show that so many strikers are overpriced. We have got a 5 goal return from Gayle from his first season at the premier league and playing at a top level. Thats not bad and I think he could get 10+ next season if things go well.

Our transfer policy should be maybe 3 new players max. Honestly I think our squad has enough, if we can keep Ince, we have areas of quality all over the pitch.

Spot on. You can't teach instinctive finishing like that and it's almost priceless. If he can learn the unglamorous parts of the game and we find the right partner for him then we just might have another star on our hands.

Dwight Gayle is obviously a natural born goal scorer.he is so calm as shown against Liverpool, lots of players would have panicked and just hit the ball and hoped for the best,he didn't use power he just placed the ball into the net.
considering he has had so little playing time, and when he has played has fed on the smallest of measly scraps i think he's done brilliantly to get 4 league goals.
I'm a big fan, we must keep hold of him.

give him the chances and he will be worth his weight in gold and goals.

Made me laugh what people have written about him this season, saying that he's definitely not Prem class and that just because of his goal against Villa, it doesn't mean he can finish.

I'm pleased he's shut them up.

I hope not. Gayle is definitely worth keeping on for another season to show his credentials but I bet there will be a few clubs sniffing around looking for a bargain!!!!
