sounds like a sensible request from TP. Whatever sum he asks for he knows he won't get all of it so like any negotiation go in high knowing you'll get a few £K less. £25m is about right to invest in the team for second year in Prem. The board won't put the club in jeopardy so there's no need for everyone to get their knickers in a twist.

Well we certainly need four new signings asap which will probably take all of 25/30 million quid if we are to get a bit of quality and provide for more depth. I agree The Board will certainly keep an eye on overall spending but we must invest if we want stay up and do better next term. I just wonder if Parish et al could entice another investor in now that we are in the top league.

According to the Daily Fail today.

Assuming that is four or five players and adding on three year contract salaries then that £30mill is actually gonna be edging toward £45-50mill.

The question is should we as a club that so nearly died invest so much money? Where will it lead, etc?

I'll say it again - £50 million pounds.

I guess the owners know better than any of us what the club can afford based on the £60m tv money (cranked up to nearly £80m due to prize money and additional tv appearance money) plus season ticket sales, sponsorship, merchandise sales, income from the catering side, corporate hospitality, etc.
The two things go hand in hand. Being a successful club in the top division means everyone spends more on your product but in order to continue being successful you have to continue to invest to satisfy not only us fans but the big hitters that the the club relies on such as 'bet12' and GAC.
In my opinion the club could probably afford this kind of investment especially as there is likely to be a few million pounds worth of departures this summer plus those departures will free up room on the wage bill that you mentioned.
The plans for a new stadium as well as training ground improvements etc will likely need to be achieved a bit slower though. Spending all the money is a QPR trick. Look where that got them. I think it is essential the club starts building a war chest to allow for emergencies.

Shd be given 20 million in the summer. If targets are met another 5 in jan.

We need a new left back, new cb (Gabbidon replacement) at least one new cm (kg replacement), new striker (Jerome replacement), new winger / inside fwd (Ince or replacement for him)

Shd be able to manage that with 20 mil.

All good points. However, we now have something like £250million guaranteed over the next four seasons no matter even if we get relegated so maybe the £50million i mention isn't such a big deal?...

Well what was the same quotes for an average wage bill of 35k/week? Something like £35 million? We aren't there yet, but it won't take long. £35k/week is nothing these days. So wages will eat I to that £250 million nicely.

Then SP mentioned that they are looking at doing work around the ground: Pitch is being dug up, better drainage, under-soil heating (£1 million), the AW, home and away, is being looked at to improve facilities, the "media centre" is getting completed/done properly, the cables hanging everywhere are being dig into the ground, round the edge of the pitch is being redone once the work on/under the pitch is done, more advertising boards, some tarting up of some of the bars, and other stuff that he wasn't at liberty to mention.

And those are just small improvements in the scale of things. He also said they have a healthy dialogue with Sainbury's and that the Whitehorse will probably be the first to be improved. So wheels are turning! Then there's the standard operating costs we incur anyway; so I know £250 million sounds nice, but I'm not getting carried away.

We should have faith though, that what TP is given is what the club can afford.

Is this true? It makes all the right sense. Develop the stand with least seats, adding more, to counter the loss when buinding the next stand. Typical 2010 logical genius! I love it!
