Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but the team currently 11th in the Barclays Premier League with 44 points, and which just pulled back the title chasing Liverpool from 3-0 down to 3-3 is, effectively, a Championship side.

Looking at our starting line-up on Monday, 8 of those players were Championship players last season. By the end of the game we were fielding 10 2012/13 Championship players, with the 11th (Ledley) never having played in the EPL either.

Two things:
1. Further demonstrates the remarkable job Pulis has done, getting the best (and more) from the players he had available.

2. Shows that to move on next season we do need to strenghten the squad and to bring in a bit more quality / experience, whilst not losing the team spirit and work ethic. I'm not suggesting this team cannot do it again next season, but it's a bit like the season we finished 3rd in the old 1st Division, in that an element of the success is down to the fact a majority of players have reached their peak at the same time, which may prove harder to maintain next season.

This is not a negative thread in any way what so ever, just an observation while also again shouting from the rooftops what an amazing season this has been, from an amazing manager, amazing squad of great hard working players, and amazing fans.

God I love being a Palace fan !!

Interesting post. Don't you thinking in the long run the championship class will start working against the side and they will get picked off? It's ok to play counter attacking formations but they only work as long as the opposition don't score or Palace need to win. The players required to change to more varied tactics may not be found among those we have. Not sure though as Ward, Ince, Williams and Gayle are still to develop.

You really do talk some nonsense don't you? DW is certainly one of the players that will attract a lot of interest from other PL clubs in the window.

Individual talent can make the difference, but a well drilled, cohesive team that plays to its strengths and more importantly uses players other strengths to nulify its weaknesses is always superior.

For all their flare on the attack, and goal scoring prowess, Liverpool's title hopes were dashed because they just can't defend. Their goal scoring papered over their cracks, and we got right at them, but the simple fact is that any team that throws away a 3-0 advantage has serious problems.

Liverpool couldn't defend in midfield, and they certainly couldn't defend at the back. They pretty much had a back two, as their full backs were always out of position, and lacked the capacity to get back - and when up the field lacked a defensive midfield presence.

Anyone who questions what KG does, needs to look at those three goals we scored.

I reckon there's a lot of players in our squad who will attract some serious offers the biggest battle we face is keeping the current crop happy enough with ££££ and bonuses!

I hate closed season, Agents get busy and greedy players holding clubs to ransom!

We can't let sentiment get in the way of what we need to do as a club. The squad needs to be strengthened and alot of players will likely not play as much as they did this season. I would love for the current squad to play every minute of every match but is unlikely as TP will look to bring in more quality and cover which will also create more competition for places. But TP and the board know what we need to do and I trust in their decisions although Speroni defo needs a new contract and if they dont make it happen then that would be a travesty.

You could [could] put together a starting XI of players who you would want in the Championship who played for us this season, but won't potentially play for Palace again.

Price
Moxey
Gabbs
Paddy (didn't play - yet)
Marange
Thomas
Bannan
Dobbie
Kebe
Phillips
Wilbs

Including some on loan, like Rambo, who we may not see again.

Paddy came on as a 3rd CB in the home game against Hull where TP completely outmanaged Judas Bruce & son.

I think you're right about all these players, plus Parr maybe as well. That would mean signing 2 new LBs

Interesting in that it shows that purchasing a new team doesn't make you any better.
Probably why other than a few exceptions that us buying so many in the summer didn't work for Holloway.
As Neil Warnock often said - the team that got you there has the heart to keep you there and in our case
Speroni
Ward
Delaney
Gabbidon for part of the campaign
Jedinak
KG
Parr/Moxey - ditto
Bolasie
Murray - some games

show that a team is a team and that can get you a long way.
Add Tony Pulis to that equation and hey presto!

Interesting thread. I feel that when we got promoted, yes, we were a championship club still. Bit as soon as Pulis and his coaches came, he instilled a lot of premier league quality into the team, even though a few of our players were evolving it naturally anyway. I agree that in hindsight, because a lot of our players played in the championship last season, we can be seen as a championship club, but we're not now we're a premier league club with some naturally developed premier league quality. It can only get better with new additions too.
