Did Gusset really mention Tom Soares?? He wasn't unsung he was un-talented. Can't believe we managed to sell him.

I liked Soares.

Remember Geotge wood's spill against Swindon away? Twas shocking.

I remember the crowd turning on George in that fateful 4-4 draw away at Leicester. Before that season he often single-handedly kept us in games.

There's a lot of very respected players on this thread. I think Paul Stewart is universally accepted as one of our best ever loanees. Michael Hughes, Clint Hill, Kevin Mabbutt all 'sung' heroes if you ask me.

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

Yeah but I guess my point was when people talk about the 78/79 team it's Sansom, Vince, Murphy, Cannon who get more of the plaudits...... ahh who am I kidding I can still recite that first XI off by heart - I guess Doris' biggest problem (in getting credit) was that he had Kenny on the opposite flank and no one was ever going to be better than him.

True - never fully appreciated at the time for that reason.

Actually I take your point now,, everyone loved Doris, but he is probably the last one to get a mention when that team is discussed, maybe Peter Nicholas as well? Who was the grafter in the middle of the park

john Humphreys, matt Lawrence Clint hill , Andy thorn , Richard shaw all gave 100% I wouldn't fancy been marked by either hill or Lawrence and as for thorn forget it , as for the people who picked Tommy black are they having a laugh he had skill but was lazy and was always moaning and jeff Hopkins was one of the worst players seen in 40 years of watching palace
