I keep banging on about it - keep Murray and give him the chance to be that man.
Austin is not what we want and he is lazy as well.

I initially thought the same...but now the more i think about it and check out stats etc, his (Austin's) goals per game ratio is very impressive at every level.
i say...get him in!

Murray - based on starts - inc. the crap at the start of the season when Pulis left showed him to be a 19/20 goal a year striker - and he is FREE - we have him.
I do not want Austin - when they played us and we thrashed them - yes - it must have been difficult for him but he did bugger all and sulked not our type of player - send him to West Ham.

I don't blame him on that day. At one point he took a ball from Tarabt, got around the back of Dann and Kelly and looked up to cross and had 0 QPR players in the box with young Abdel still admiring the 5 year pass he'd just made...gently jogging towards the 'D'.

I am torn on Austin tbh.

He's a finisher Ill give him that but so is GM and so is DG - Is he a better line leader than GM though and as canny ? Is he quicker and as versatile as DG ?

Don't think he is.

Is he worth 15m though ????

I can see comparing Austin to Murray but Dwight Gayle, really? If we sign a striker on a Monday Gayle will be gone by Tuesday! He is so overrated on here it's unreal! Austin is a better version of Murray but I genuinely think Murray will stay and compete with Chamakh Campbell and the new number 9!

It wasn't really a comparison as such which I thought was obvious from the way the post was framed but...

Actually no he isn't overrated. He is our top scorer in the two seasons we have been in this league.

Gayle is an excellent finisher and he has proved it - what he isn't is a line leader or someone who gives a huge physical presence and as we play with a formation that only allows for one out and out forward then he simply isn't up to that part of the game so has his limitations, as Murray does with pace. If we played two up - who knows.

He's certainly quick enough at this level, he's certainly versatile enough to drop deeper and play off a '9' or play wide and cut in, he can hit a dead ball and he knows where the goal is...overrated ???

Austin is the better finisher/ goal scorer granted, and if both played 38 games Austin would score more goals for sure , but Austin is a poor target man compared to Glenn , people seem to be under the assumption Austin is a target man because he is 6'2 , he struggled on his own last year and that's why Zamora made so many starts for qpr . The same can be said of Rhodes aswell , which is why at both Huddersfield and Blackburn , others were preferred as lone strikers.

Has anyone thought we may be planning a 4-3-1-2 formation for the first half with Murray and Austin up front? And then dropping back to 4-5-1 at half time when we're 4 or 5 goals up to give Glen a rest?

Thought about that as I dont think he has played on his own much up front (certainly not last season) and that would also accomodate both Jedi and Mcarthur in midefield but means that Puncheon gets dropped along with Chammers - then again, if we play him with one up top, sign Cabaye, that would mean two of Ledley, Mcarthur and Jedi get dropped. Then my head started to hurt so I decided to wait and see who we signed and how we lined up first game of the season.

Isn't it nice to be worrying about who we'll have to drop rather than who we will have to play out of position.

That said, if Souare doesn't work out, I wonder if we will use Ledley there....

100% we won't be using ledley at LB unless both kelly and souare are injured. Even then ward would probably slot in with mariappa at RB

This.

As for ''if Souare doesn't work out''..............He's grown into the position and made it his own, imo.

Once he is officially over the line whoever is up front will no doubt have a lot more chances than just with our 2 creative wingers, Wilf and Yannick. This is the biggest foreign signing since Lombardo. Not too concerned whether we get Austin over Gayle or FFS as a result. All of them can do a good job and with Chammers and Punch as well things going forward look good. Personally I would rather we spent big in the CB position to replace Delaney. Someone who is comfortable to bring the ball out of defence and pass to the midfield to put us on the offensive. If we are putting in a more attacking midfield we need to use it. Possibly Ashley Williams if available who has played in a Swansea side who have utilised an attacking midfield and 2 pacy wingers for many seasons ?

I disagree.

Souare has looked shaky. Very much so.

He may grow into it though. Kelly has been much much better.

All the arguments have substance but the underlying point remains; 15 million quid is a much more reasonable fee for someone who's scored 15-20 goals in the Premiership for two or three consecutive seasons than someone who's done it once.

45 premier league goals in 3 seasons?? They'd be going for 30+ million.
