Guys, my friends daughter is conducting a survey into how pubs have changed over the last 10 years as part of her degree.

I remember pubs of yesteryear when there used to be soda siphons on the bar.And during the 2 hour Sunday lunch period often the landlord used to provide free nibbles on the bar.And of course the separate "Saloon" and "Public" bars.

It was the "Posher" of the 2 bars and beer cost a penny a pint more ! Normally "Public" bars were mainly for blokes but women were allowed in !

In those days there was none of these tills to work out the cost of a round and change - the bar tender used to do it in his/her head ! And they had to deal with florins and farthings etc etc.

Not that long ago (relatively) pubs in Wales didn't open on a Sunday.

I remember when a pub was unique, rather than just another branch of the brewery.

And the same goes for the merchandise. You try asking for a Scotch & Dry or a pint of Mild nowadays and all you get is a blank look.
