Am i the only one who's no bothered if he comes or not.
Im more than happy with the midfield players we already have.
If it meant one of them leaving for Cabaye, id rather he went to west ham.
We need a centre half and a centre forward, not another midfield.

Trust me you would want Cabaye in our team,he is brilliant.

Lets hope Cabaye is not stringing us along in hope someone else comes in.

lets hope he fancies London rather than the South coast or the North west.

Sadly i believe this is exactly what he is doing. As mentioned earlier he is easily a top 8 player and at the moment we are not a top 8 team. I suspect someone else will seal this transfer but it was nice to be involved in the running. On to the next one!!

[Link]

Wet Spam not a top 8 team either but paper in Paris reporting he'd rather go there. They can probably play top 8 wages even though they are a bottom half team.

Spot on

Dont let Cabaye go

If this doesn't happen it wont be the end of the World but I think it would be a strong comment on the real level of our ambition vs financial risk.
Despite our 3rd season at this level, we're still not prepared to outbid similar status clubs for a player of this quality to strengthen our squad and increase the likelihood of advancing on last years ranking.
Watford and Bournemouth may be foolhardy in splashing the cash around buying Capoue, Mings and trying to land Austin whilst their Prem brand equity is unestablished but we're still struggling to attract the next level of player despite our London status, mid table finish and the strong likelihood that we could offer Cabaye regular first team football.
My fear is that unless we compete at the right financial level in the transfer window we're just going to end up with a few risky punts on lower league or foreign players untested in the Prem and ensuring we have another squeaky arse ride staying in the league. We might get lucky pulling off a great signing but there's been absolutely no evidence thus far that we"re actually in the market for player of this quality yet. It's good to know we're targeting the likes of Austin, Cabaye, but talk is cheap and it will be unlikely that we secure longevity in this division unless we're serious contenders for their signature and acquire players that 2 years of topflight TV revenue income now affords.

It's amazing how much people overreact to an article in a paper.

It must be a hard job for SP to get the balance right but I agree if we can afford to invest in this class of player we need to.

unfortunately until we look at increasing our revenue ie increasing stadium capacity and other revenues we will not be able to complete with other clubs for these type of players despite the big tv revenue coming in. Unless we find a rich Russian to support us.

It must be a really difficult balancing act....you want to attract the big players to push on and establish ourselves as a top 10 club, but at the same time you don't want to alienate all the players we have who we need on side and playing their hearts out like they did last season.

If we are trying to buy the bigger players, and meeting club valuations but then not offering the right package for them to choose us then I would imagine we are doing it to keep the rest of the team on side.

I really want Cabaye to sign, he would be awesome for us, but I do worry that if we bring in a star on massive wages (massive compared to the current lads anyway) then the likes of Bolasie, Punch and others might get annoyed and that could affect their play.....I dont think they would deliberately play worse, but it would surely affect them.

I know we need to do it at some point, and the time is probably now, but still worrying in my mind.

I am sure that this has already been posted in other threads (and possibly at some point in this one), but there is still a long way to go in this transfer window.

Plenty of time for 2-3 quality additions. If it is not Cabaye, there are plenty more fish in the sea.

True, but the season starts in one month and given our first six games you would ideally want new signings sooner rather than later so they can gel with the rest of the squad and be ready for Norwich away which is the kind of game we need to be winning even though it's only the first game. We don't want to be going into that game shoving 3 new signings in who turned up 5 days beforhand.

Wouldn't definitely like to see Cabaye join. Agree that he's exactly the sort of player we need to progress.

What I can't understand is why Parish would be so open about our interest if it wasn't already pretty much in the bag. He's usually been pretty coy on that sort of thing in the past.
