I really hope this is just "Agent Nonsense".

Hennessey has come or is coming good! Jules as back up would be as strong as it gets between the sticks!

As good as it gets? Behave!

Hennessey is a good goalkeeper but is no way in the same league as Mandanda.

Agreed. I really don't see a problem with this as a potential transfer. Jules will need to be replaced at some point and I'd rather be proactive in finding a replacement and not just, one day, finding ourselves in the Premier League with a keeper who is past his best. I hate to say it, but we saw moments last season when it looked like those days are coming sooner.

As for Hennessey, the management see him everyday in training are are in a position to judge whether he is good enough. Just saying "he deserves his chance" is naive. It would be great if he is a ready made replacement for Jules, but he always seemed like a Pulis choice of keeper: big, dominant in the air. Under Pardew we are now trying to be more expansive and we require a keeper who is good with his feet.

If a potentially world class keeper is available and willing to join us then maybe it is the time to strike whilst the iron is hot. Southampton invested big in a keeper last season in Forster and that move paid dividends, and went some way to contribute to the massive strive forward they made under Koeman.

If Mandanda is judged to be the man for us then I welcome the move. I'm certainly not against it just for sentimental reasons or from some sort of sense of loyalty.

Solely on this point, Hennessey seems very good with his feet, and distribution in general. Looks for quick throws on the counter, and gives it a hell of a boot upfield!

I agree. He is far mor accurate with his throws and his feet than Jules.

Of course there are better keepers out there; De Gea, Lloris etc. However, that is not my point when I said it is as 'strong as it gets'. The reality is our keeper situation does not need to be strengthened 'prior to' the positions.

Do we really want to shellout say anything between £5 million to £10 million when we have Hennessey and Jules for this season? That (by way of example) £7.5 million could and should go on securing the likes of Cabaye.

I think Pards is trying to create a French-speaking element to the team. It makes sense.

We already have one; Bolasie, Chamakh, Souare, Guerdiora and probably some I've forgotten.

Unless Hennessy is off, and Jules is comfortable possibly playing second fiddle, I can't see why we'd go in for Mandanda.

I can only think of Wilf.

All this Pardew like a French player cr@p, is just that, cr@p! It wasn't Pardew who brought in the French or any other players at Newcastle, they wre brought in for him.

Maybe, but he has probably had scout reports or feedback from people looking at potential signings, so probably has a good idea of the market there.

Even then, it's likely lazy journalism. Doesn't help when the ex-Newcastle players we are linked with are also French!

Let's be honest, they could be from Timbuktu and speaks Swahili for all we care, as long as they improve what we've already got.

Mandanda is a top class goalkeeper. I'd be chuffed if we get him. Definitely an upgrade on speroni and Hennessy
