Capital controls imposed, banks shut for a week. Syriza not accepting a bailout deal but putting it to a referendum. This is either a masterstroke by Syriza or a cock up of the highest order. On the one hand you should honour your debts, especially when your taking from other smaller EZ countries, but sucking three cocks in the form of the troika must be hard to take. They're stuck in a cycle of getting loans to pay loans. Think this is the beginning of the end of the euro tbh. No doubt some of you will be off there in the coming weeks,

"If you owe the bank a thousand pounds and you can't pay, you have a problem.

If you owe the bank a billion pounds and you can't pay, the bank has a problem."

I don't blame the Greeks for taking the stance they have, they've complete lost any form of national sovereignty and I wouldn't be surprised if they voted against the deal, even if their media portray it as an in/out referendum on the Euro.

My feeling is that there will still be a deal that involves some form of debt restructuring and still a lot of austerity. It will be interesting to see whether that will then pass through the Greek parliament or indeed the German parliament.

The whole thing is a sorry mess. I think they'd be best off long-term coming out.

Until the Greeks reform their tax collection system they'll be fooked forever.

Too many shysters giving back handers and avoiding paying it has crippled the country since the war.

Oh how wonderful the EU is.

Oh how safe it keeps us.....No wars....Improved security.

The truth is this form of the EU is a disaster zone.

EU - loss of sovereignty, unemployment, financial instability, loss of border controls, social unrest, taxes and bills for everything, bureaucracy, stupid human rights legislation protecting criminals, political correctness gone mad, rules, red tape......apart from that, what is there not to love ?

Their overgenerous state pension scheme has a lot to answer for too!

They've raised the retirement age to the same as ours and pensions have been slashed by 40% already.

They say that their retirement age is the same as Germany.

What they fail to note is that they are a less productive country.

If you want benefits like Germany then you have to be able to pay for them like Germany. Cut your cloth accordingly.

And you can be damn sure that Germany don't want them to be as productive as them.

And don't forget Germany took decades to get to where it is.....As well as being enabled after WW2.
