You lot don't know how fortunate you were to be born in an affluent, stable, peaceful western country do you?

It's a prerequisite of being a lefty that you are middle class, completely ignorant and never happy.

Genius... got me in one. Never happy, completely ignorant, and middle class. I'd like to point out of course that the class system you reference is a industrial era class system, that's redundant in definitions of post industrial consumer society, but unfortunately I'm completely ignorant.

Yeah so fortunate that I get up at 4.30am each morning and work till 7pm just to keep my head above water, taking cr@p from morons who don't know their arses from their elbows. Let's not try and make out that we all live in huge Manor houses with servants and flash cars. What infuriates me the most is these patronising celebrities telling us to give money to people less fortunate than ourselves. If they all clubbed together and gave some of their vast fortunes then they would go a long way to helping these less fortunate people. No one chooses where they are born, so lets not

This is correct. The French should take them. It's not our responsibility. France is a safe country and they can be catered for there.

No one should take them unless they are genuine asylum cases. Part of the real problem, is everyone wants someone else to take responsibility, than working collectively towards resolving a problem in a fair and equitable manner.

That's incorrect, you claim asylum on arrival in the UK (or as soon as possible - some people find themselves in need of asylum as a result of changes in a country whilst they were away); not the first country you arrive in.

Personally, I'd rather have French citizenship in terms of welfare, than the UK but c'est la vie.

At least according to the .gov site detailing how to claim asylum in the UK.

But would you be able to put up with the racism and xenophobia dished out by the population of France?

I also know how fortunate people are to live in Monaco, Cannes, and Nice, Dan, but I don't turn up on their doorstep demanding a free slice of their lavish lifestyle not having contributed or worked towards it though?

I know Bristol's not exactly the Maldives but I'm not sure you've ever been forced to flee from war or famine or fear of being forcefully raped.

OK, well maybe the last one.

Those in Calais are more likely to be economic migrants though surely Danno ? If your main concern was not getting bum raped in some god forsaken sub Saharan shytehole then whether you landed in France, Italy, even Bristol your first thought would not be to slog half way across Europe and put your life in your hands racing the Eurostar down the tunnel.

Yeah that seems a strange logic doesn't it? Everyone should pay taxes and I think that's a universal view, no matter what political persuasion that person is.

They do it because they know of the riches to be gained. Of course we can't blame them for thinking of that but they still shouldn't be let in, end of.

People coming to our shores seeking asylum, I always thought came through authorized channels, direct from refugee centers situated within war zones. These people must be shown kindness, housed, given the necessities to live as decent human beings, and be given free education. They should also be repatriated when their countries are stable and require the skilled artizans to return and rebuild. The vast majority of those people in Calais are not. They are by definition economic migrants. They can afford to pay $1000 plus dollars to be trafficked into Europe. If you wish to emigrate there are legitimate channels that everyone else have to use, why should it be different for those across the channel in Calais?

How do you know, did you ask them. The Welfare system in France is much more generous than the UK, and even if you work, you get more time off.

The usual factors are relatives in a country, language and bizarrely, historical relationship with Empire/commonwealth.

You'd really hate France, because it has a HUGE Muslim population, a knock on really from the days of the French territories in Northern Africa and the middle east.

Are Chelsea already playing Champions League games in Paris

Fortunately there is no racism and xenophobia dished out in the UK.... (Admittedly its less of a problem here).
