This is correct. The French should take them. It's not our responsibility. France is a safe country and they can be catered for there.

These people must be shown kindness, housed, given the necessities to live as decent human beings, and be given free education. They should also be repatriated when their countries are stable and require the skilled artizans to return and rebuild. The vast majority of those people in Calais are not. They are by definition economic migrants. They can afford to pay $1000 plus dollars to be trafficked into Europe. If you wish to emigrate there are legitimate channels that everyone else have to use, why should it be different for those across the channel in Calais?

People coming to our shores seeking asylum, I always thought came through authorized channels, direct from refugee centers situated within war zones. These people must be shown kindness, housed, given the necessities to live as decent human beings, and be given free education. They should also be repatriated when their countries are stable and require the skilled artizans to return and rebuild. The vast majority of those people in Calais are not. They are by definition economic migrants. They can afford to pay $1000 plus dollars to be trafficked into Europe. If you wish to emigrate there are legitimate channels that everyone else have to use, why should it be different for those across the channel in Calais?

How do you know, did you ask them. The Welfare system in France is much more generous than the UK, and even if you work, you get more time off.

The usual factors are relatives in a country, language and bizarrely, historical relationship with Empire/commonwealth.

You'd really hate France, because it has a HUGE Muslim population, a knock on really from the days of the French territories in Northern Africa and the middle east.
