Given that 7 years ago we entered the biggest clusterf*ck of a recession since the war and we're still not fully recovered now I'd hardly say that's that remarkable or anything to do with austerity.

Unemployment down and employment up, what could be better news?
It doesnt accord with people's everyday experience though does it? Less job security not more. No evidence of employment mobility. Youth unemployment still at an all time high.
What it suggests to me is that there are more McJobs and that we are now a low wage, low security economy, with a shrinking manufacturing base and fewer opportunities for high qualified young people.
I dont see that as much to shout about.

The recession in the 70s was far worse.

It was so bad people had to dress in rejected clothing in order to make ends meet

I would take unemployment figures with a pinch of salt.

I am sure they now only count over 18's when before it was over 16's

Many people seem to be on zero hour contracts.

Lots of people on temporary or short contracts.

Because they have to stay in education until 18 now, unless they are an apprentice/trainee.

We haven't had austerity. Smoke and mirrors. Deficit and public spending still too high.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
