Perhaps as part of the conditions of him joining and also, instead of treating himself to a flash watch, he should make a £100k donation to keep the facilities for Kayla etc...going for years as I hear they are really struggling financially. Still would only want him on a short term contract if at all.

I am going to back Super Alan Pardew here. If Pards thinks he can do a job for us, I am going to put everything else in a secondary position. I dont care about his penchant for watches, or anything else, we need a goalscorer and when I look around at whats available I see no one else closing in on a 100 prem goals.

Remember too its about man management and if Sherwood was able to rekindle his goalscoring form then I will back Pardew to do the same.

'- Really? Honestly? Back in the USSR,,,you don't know how lucky you are.

I don't much care about what is/isn't the truth about his upbringing, attitude and where he puts his money.

What is true is that he hasn't been that bothered about playing football for the last few years so why would he suddenly find his appetite again with us? He's more interested in pursuits outside of playing football, which is fair enough, his decision, but we need someone hungry and willing to fight. All the ability in the world is nothing if you have no desire to use it.

100% agree - I think he would be a massive mistake

This is not really accurate. Adebayor has scored goals wherever he has played, and he's played at some pretty impressive clubs. His last stint as a player ended eighteen months ago when he was Spurs' leading scorer and delivered big time for Tim Sherwood who had reinstated him in the Spurs side. If there is a knock on Adebayor, it's that he has always started fast at new clubs, then lost interest once he's secured a long-term contract. In other words, he's motivated by money. But that won't be a problem on a short-term deal at Palace.

What we have to do is weigh the major negative (character, personal motivation) against the positive, which has been described thusly:

This is a player with a full breathtaking range of centre-forward skills at his disposal, who can score any kind of goal against any team. Cast as a target man, he can also play No10 with a rare ability to link and protect the ball, plus that wonderfully frictionless way of moving, slightly menacing on those skinny little fine-point ankles below all that massed and coiled power, scuttling along like a very graceful, frightening robot spider. What an athlete, too! Adebayor’s leap is the stuff of dressing-room legend, an ability to spring honed during his childhood when he would tie a ball to the ceiling and spend hours leaping up to head it. Rumour has it he was even timed quicker than Theo Walcott over the full 100m during his time at Arsenal.

My view is that it's a risk worth taking for the following reasons:

1. If fit, Adebayor is better than any other forward we can sign. Easily.
2. On a four month deal, the risk of his being a disruptive influence is almost zero.
3. We have a strong dressing room that mitigates the risk of Adebayor playing up.
4. If we sign him on a four month deal, rather than panic-spend, we are enabled to buy sensibly and in a more measured way in the summer.
5. He has something to prove and this is his last chance to prove it. That may be motivation enough.
6. If he can pass an interview with Parish and Pardew, two people I trust completely, and they believe he is suitable for Palace then that's good enough for me.
7. Some players settle when they finally find the right club for them. Big clubs haven't suited Adebayor. Maybe being loved at Selhurst and being the centre of attention will enable him to find his niche.

It IS a risk but in my view a risk well worth taking.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

He was good but I think there's more to it somewhere as to why he isn't playing for a big club now . If was still really good and right attitude someone bigger than us would of already tapped him up.

Campbell or Adebayor?

Chamakh (as he is right now) or Adebayor?

We are desperate for a forward, absolutely desperate.

Right deal til the end of the season and we have to take it. I hope there's a proper fitness assessment though, as we need someone who can contribute at least 60 minutes now, not in 4 weeks.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

In other words, his level is commensurate with our current level? Thus, a good buy?

Or, as Barcelona are not pursuing him, he can do one?

Not sure what your point is.

if he signs till end of the year its great business. Abebayour playing for a contract is a top striker. Problem is when he has a contract he gives up.

So we play him at his own game.
We give him a short term deal and hint heavily that if he impresses we will offer him a long term contract. We then let him run through walls for the team and proceed to say goodbye in the summer.
Its a bit underhand but if you play it straight with him and give him the contract he craves we do run the risk of being stuck with a disinterested striker earning more than we can afford to pay him to sit on the bench.

I think on a short term deal for 6 months is good and bad, but mainly bad in that he'll probably just get match fit when his contract ends.

Not sure signing a player who has barely played for a year on a short term deal is the answer, even if he has been doing sit ups in his bedroom.

I see this as being a similar signing to the Ameobi one with us also trying to tie-up a more long-term solution. If we could offload Campbell then that would hopefully go some way to covering the wages of someone who might actually look like scoring. Also, he might be able to teach the likes of Bolasie, Zaha and Wickham how to shoot. It might not work, but I can't see us losing out too much either.

I hope this comes off. When fit, he will smash them in for us, no question.
