I have seen stories about the mega rich getting these subsidies when clearly they don't need them.

I don't know enough to have the answer but I would hope that any future subsidies would be based around protecting the environment and the quality of the food.

If a farmer wishes to go organic or move away from factory intensive farming that should be encouraged.

The CAP system pays out on acreage, including land not being farmed, so cut down a hedgerow and get more subsidy. Replaced by direct payments based on environmental standards.

Except that the Single Farm Payment has environmental requirements and you lose payment if those are not adhered to. Cutting a hedgerow would almost inevitably mean losing payments.

In addition, currently over a quarter of payments are not on Hectares but are directly linked to rural development initiatives. You may have seen the widening of hedgerows for example.

We can do better than the CAP no doubt. That would be better done within wider EU reform. But farmers are now realising they can't expect much after 2017 when the transition period finishes.

You don’t. You have a full on Orwellian complex. I’m yet to see one post where you don’t in some way crowbar in your fully observable facts and dress them up as sagely tellings that no one else has seen. Mix in a bit of chicken little, a tin hat, sandwich board and some bud, and we’re there. Again. For the 456 millionth time.

I’m waiting for the post that attempts to link a palace result to the global financial crisis.

Didn't quite put the debate to bed regarding farmers who voted to lose subsidies? Or is it another case of leave argument falling apart like a cheap suit again?

When I asked up thread if you knew anything about this you said yes, but you keep asking the same question. Ihe system of payments to farmers is going to change. The farming community welcome this, CAP as been very unpopular, through various iterations, for years.

Farmers make more from subsidies than they do from farming. Maybe they’re in the wrong business.

Doesn't explain why they'd vote leave though

Perhaps they’re concerned with wider issues than their own financial advantage.

Such as? What are the other advantages that balance the financial loss?
