Was always highly unlikely to be selected. As you say any change like that needs to be properly debated.

LBC are saying they may still try through the Lords when the bill goes there. I hope the Lords resist the temptation their reason for existing is to take a step back and take a long hard look at legislation.

I'm not in favour of either amendment but I could be persuaded I just don't like being bounced into it.

You can definitely be old and gullible. It's by no means age exclusive.

That is a disingenuous remark.
People who are still at school should not be voting.
It is a disgusting ploy.

Imagine going into negotiation saying I'll bend over just say when! Boris stood firm ,it's all an act , you'll learn one day!

As I predicted the opposition are trying to tack on reducing the voting age to 16 and also including EU citizens.

This is a terrible idea and shows us just how far this Parliament has sunk into stupidity. Both of these are major constitutional changes. Where was the debate? where was the public campaign? What are the nuances?

I said that the courts should not have interfered in politics for the same reason that Parliament should not be making these changes under these circumstances.

We need calm heads and clear minds to look at all this stuff, take advice from constitutional experts, listen to the public and come to a decision.

It's a joke that this Parliament which has loudly proclaimed that it needs more time to study Boris' deal
and "we mustn't rush into this etc." And yet the same voices are doing precisely that with these 2 amendments
.

I hope they fail.

Almost exactly my words to Mrs YT when I heard this on the news, plus a few effs and blinds thrown in. The hypocrisy of MPs is staggering (as if we didn't know that already).

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

All you are doing is repeating, parrot like, the same tired old phrases I have heard in the UK and elsewhere around the world, for the past 60 years about immigration. The world has changed and as part of the world we are impacted by those changes. My own parents held these types of views but as they were unworldly and not particularly well educated I could both understand why and forgave them.

What's your excuse?

Oh the irony!!

Leaving aside whether a 16yo is capable of making a rational choice there are other considerations.

If at 16yo you are adult enough to vote then the criminal justice system should treat you as an adult and not as a child. It hardly seems fair that a 16yo gets all the perks of being an adult but none of the responsibilities.

A fact for you. Irish citizens can vote in a UK referendum but UK citizens cannot vote in an Irish referendum.

Thanks I did not know that.

Before we rush off and give the vote to other EU citizens someone might want to check how expats are treated in the rest of the EU.

Well I can tell you how it is in France: we can vote in local council and European elections and that’s it.

We have no vote in governmental or presidential matters.

You can vote in government elections if you take up french citizenship after the five year qualifying period.
