It's just that after - is it 2 years? - and after hundreds of thousands of pounds of police time, the authorities have merely said that they haven't enough evidence to charge him. An aspect of this affair which doesn't seem to have attracted much comment is that the police have apologised for their handling of the investigation. If they didn't do anything wrong, what are they apologising for? If they did, then someone should be offering their resignation for ruining someone's life.
