Patriarchal religion based society still living in the dark ages.

I find the term "lightly beat" intriguing - sounds a bit like something you would find in a recipe book. So, anyway, what constitutes lightly beating? Striking your wife with a rolled up newspaper, a clip round the ear, a couple of punches to the solar plexus? And who will measure and adjudicate as to whether the beating was indeed light, or was perhaps a tad heavy?

So, anyway, what constitutes lightly beating? Striking your wife with a rolled up newspaper, a clip round the ear, a couple of punches to the solar plexus?

And who will measure and adjudicate as to whether the beating was indeed light, or was perhaps a tad heavy?

I remember ready many years ago of a similar law in Malaysia, which said it was ok to hit your wife as long as you did not leave a mark. Which, whilst being more defined, is still bollocks.

Most certainly not European.
