PALACE IN SAKHO TALKS

Crystal Palace are in talks to sign West Ham striker Diafra Sakho.

One source tells us Sakho is having a Palace medical, but another source says no bid has been made yet.

Sakho was at West Ham’s training ground this morning.

Yep. You can throw as many stats into an argument as you like but they are simply irrelevant unless in an identical context. The only way those goals per minute numbers can be used as an accurate benchmark is if all were playing for the same teams against the same opposition in the same conditions etc

Look at the Cenk Tosun furore - is he actually that good? His record in the league this year so far is worse than either Gomis or Adebayor but there’s nobody looking to throw £25m+ at either of them.

There’s enough West Ham fans who don’t understand why he doesn’t play for them - much like Tomkins before we got him.

Careful!

if he is only costing 10m it's not really a gamble so might be worth having for cover.

i personally wouldn't of gone for him he has a record of asking to leave and another with attitude problem.

we appear to just keep going for the same targets we had years ago if we failed then to sign them they stay on list for next time.

i would of rather gone for another West Ham striker this guy is bottom of the pile.

people that are posting up stats is misleading you can't just judge what a player does by a few stats off the ball work is never shown in stats but can be a big thing for a team scoring goals (people think strikers have to have big goal stats which is true in some ways but game has changed now it's not just about strikers scoring goals)

Stats are only misleading if you only say goals per games and don't take into consideration factors like how many of those were scored from penalties or other such things. I showed the exact minutes played AND gave also the assists each striker provided.

Now you tell me what else does Sakho do on the pitch better than the others that is worth taking into consideration?
Does he have technical skills rivaling those of Messi, Ozil or Eriksen? No.
Does he dribble? No.
Is he athletic and strong? Yes. More than the others? No.
Is he fast? Yes. More than the others? Likely more than Hooper, who turns 30. More than Slimani, who is another type of striker. Pretty much just like or less than all the rest (Niasse, Andone, Babacar, Afobe)

So, tell me, what other incredible and unknown considerations must be made other than the ones the statics above prove?

I guess the other consideration
is does Roy think he will add value to the team . If so that is all that matters.

I think availability and Premier League experience probably count in this instance?

I personally would like to see us going for someone like Boakye or Majeed as you suggested on other threads, who are more of an unknown quantity and would be hungry to prove themselves in the Prem. However, we are not in a position to take a punt, so perhaps someone like Sakho as a safe and not too expensive option is a fair move.

If he is motivated to make an impact and provide competition to Benteke I can see him being good value for the remainder of the season - right now we just need someone through the door ASAP!

I looked up his wiki and the main thing I picked up is the number of injuries he’s had. He is not good value if he is constantly getting injured and regaining match fitness

Very true, we desperately need more bodies on the pitch not the treatment table! If he has had a medical, I hope it was bloody thorough!

Just had a look on the west ham forum. General consensus seems to be that if he stays fit and is given game time he's a hell of a striker.

They seem a bit annoyed to be selling him.

The number of goals scored per minutes played you so clearly rely on is such a flawed measure it’s laughable.

How about who those minutes were played for? I’m fairly comfortable in arguing that, for example, if Dwight Gayle was playing for Citeh rather than Newcastle he’d have scored a load more goals purely because of the players around him and the number of chances they create.

Shane Long’s minutes per goal ratio must be dire but most Saints fans you ask want him in the side.

Your fixation is with numbers that have so many variables they are pointless. All they prove is that people out there actually bother to measure them despite the complete irrelevance.
