Signing big(ish) players in the twilight of their careers makes no sense anymore. They don't have to take a drop in their huge wages when they can go just abroad. If Crouch’s wages were sensible, he’d be a decent squad player.

Why mess around with someone as past-it as Crouch when your fourth-choice, League Cup, sit-on-the-bench now and again man could be someone with a future?
