Although it does include, apparently, any contact the police have had with someone, not just what you've been convicted of. Which sounds remarkably illegal and surely in line for a ECHR ruling and massive payouts. No worries though, only 2700 people in 2006 were misidentified as criminals by the check.
I am pretty certain that any criminal activity that had come back on my check (it didn't as I am incredibly boring and law abiding) would've prevented UK Athletics allowing me a coaching licence. I might still have been able to obtain a DBS for the kids running event though if anything had come back that wasn't considered relevant to being jointly responsible for several children.

Oddly I have to apply for DBS, despite NATO security clearance (as well as a number of UK clearances), none of which you can hold if you have a even a spent criminal record. Reality is I suspect, that anyone who gets a return on their application is going to be rejected unless they stated it up front to the employers / group / charity. That said, we probably shouldn't be releasing child sex offenders in the first place.

I think a new questionnaire should say: Do you fancy kids? If any of the answers are "yes" then they've failed. Unless they are applying for a job in BBC Radio.

Retail is the definitely the place to work. I worked in retail for about 7 or 8 years, and everyone f**king steals. The managers, the staff, the customers, everyone. A truly astonishing amount of stuff just disappears from shops before it even gets out on the shelves - people even sold people stuff 'on the cheap' in the shop. In fact in my experience, shoplifters are a convenient excuse to cover the scale of staff theft. We used to write off about 40k of profit as a contingency for theft and damages. But easily 80% of that was staff. I'm surprised the interview is well we're only paying about 16k a year, but you can easily add another five or six on top in stuff you steal and sell to your mates, and then another 3k in stuff you legitimately buy at discount and then return to another store for a refund. Not to mention a further few k in skimming off the price of a series of sales and pocketing the difference. People used to even set the price in the system at being under the retail price, charge the full price, and keep the difference. Bloody gypsies have nothing on retail.

I work for a bank.
